Hygroset Adjustable Hygrometer

Got one in today. Will give a review on it. It's actually quite small, which I was happy with. It's 2" x 3" long. The picture always makes it look so big. I'm calibrating it via the salt test now and will repost in a few days.

Re: Hygroset Adjustable Hygrometer

Here's my initial impression: I left it in the calibrating pack for around 24 hours and it was reading 71%, so -4.5% off. OK, so I go ahead and turn the knob after I take it out of the salt baggy. I tried to adjust it upward and nothing happened?! Obviously with the hygrometer out of the bag, humidity is dropping. I've reread the instructions and it just says turn the know. Well, I've put it back into the salt bag and will now wait to see where it reads again. Bottom line, calibrating it isn't as simple as it seems or perhaps I'm doing something wrong. I'll repost after retrying or if someone has tips let me know.

Re: Hygroset Adjustable Hygrometer

Once you have noted the difference between what your hygro reads and what it should, pull the hygro out of the bag and carefully turn the adjustment knob clockwise to increase the reading, or counterclockwise to reduce the reading.

In both cases, 1 click=1%. The display will NOT change while you are doing this. Don't worry, your changes are being made, you just have to press the small "Set" button for the hygro to accept the change.

This helps to prevent inadvertent changes to the reading. Once you press the set button, the screen will clear itself and then return showing the calibrated reading.

The 'click' when you turn the knob is difficult to "fee", so I highly recommend rechecking the reading after adjusting.

Hope this helps

Re: Hygroset Adjustable Hygrometer

Mark, Thanks. It was an interesting experience to calibrate the hyrometer. I had to put it in the bag, pull it out to adjust, and then put it back in the bag 3-4x and each time wait 12-18 hours to make sure it was actually going to adjust. I found that even as I adjusted the dial, I needed to make sure that the change was actually made, hence putting it back into the Boveda calibration bag. On at least 2 tries I found that the adjustments made were not exactly correlated with the 1 click up or down so hence the 3-4 tries. Well finally it settled in at 76% (rounded up since it's 75.5% and the hygrometer doesn't display decimals). It was an interesting experience to calibrate and although I'm happy it finally worked in the end, it took me a few more tries than I would have hoped.

Re: Hygroset Adjustable Hygrometer

I've worked with many of the Hygrosets now and have found that some have a distinct click and some are a little harder to detect the click. Be patient and move the adjustment knob very slowly. Once set though it is a very good hygrometer.

Re: Hygroset Adjustable Hygrometer

Thanks for the tips. Trying them out in my humidor now. Will see how it goes. I also have another hygrometer in there to make sure they are accurate. Will post again later.

Re: Hygroset Adjustable Hygrometer

I guess i have to recalibrate my hygrometer too. It was at 75% after sitting in the calibration bag, so i pushed the set button. I DO need to push the set button do i? Or is this not necessary if it reads 75%?

Anyway, it's in my humi now, wich has 3 tubes of beads (65%) in it, and it's still reading +- 74% (after more then 24 houres). Guess this can't be right, so i'll recalibrate him again today.

Might have to let the beads work their magic a few more days, as long as there are some white ones. If they are all clear, take them out and dry some of them.....they'll pull out the extra humidity, will take a little time. Sounds like it's already calibrated to.

Re: Hygroset Adjustable Hygrometer

Hmm, you might be right. I'm a bit confused because there's also an analog hygrometer on the humi itself, and that one's reading between 55 and 60.

I actually also don't have white beads

I got a humi with 3 drawers(?), and i got a tube of beads in each of the 3 drawers. Should i dry 1 of the tubes?

You think the digital hygrometer is reading right and the analog is way of?

Re: Hygroset Adjustable Hygrometer

And also: suppose the digital hygrometer is correct calibraded, how is it possible that it's reading about 74%? I thought beads were self-regulating, so they should be at +-65%?

Did you calibrate using the "calibration kit" or a salt test?

Make sure you use the calibration kit at 70 degrees as my results have varied at lower temps.

Hope this helps

I would dry about 1/4 in each tube, otherwise they won't draw in the extra humidity.
