Re: Your Humidity Choice - 65% or 70%?
I've got a 65% puck in my desktop humi, but I'm thinking about getting some 60% beads for the lunchboxador.

Re: Your Humidity Choice - 65% or 70%?
I've always been 70% and just bought the 70% beads. Although I'm a newb and really can't answer your question. I just assumed that most sources say 70% to go with that, but after reading the explanations about going with 65%, it does kind of make sense. Some of my regular gars, it doesn't seem to matter, but some do have tighter draw and burn issues and I have often thought it might be overhumidity. I think it depends somewhat on what you smoke.

Re: Your Humidity Choice - 65% or 70%?
My humi usually rests at about 67/68, works great for me. I have let it hang at 65 for a while, not real noticeable difference, except for on a few cigars. The reason I am at 67/68 is because various spots in the humi are +/- a couple degrees, and I have all my cigars in boxes.

65% Heartfelt Beads in my desktop at the office and in my shop. 65% setting on my Accumonitor in my large cabinet at home. I personally like the draw and performance of cigars at 65% - 63%, seems to work better for me.

Re: Your Humidity Choice - 65% or 70%?
I have an oasis set to 62 in my large humidor along with 65% beads. My desktop humidor has about 3.5 oz's of 65% beads. Just got through summer so they are both running a little high but winter is around the corner so I'm sure it will straighten itself out.

Re: Your Humidity Choice - 65% or 70%?
I grabbed 2 Pucks at 70% from Mark when I started out. They worked perfectly, right at 70%. However, a couple cigars I noticed seemed to be too mushy and I was having some burn problems. So I decided to step down to 65%. Since my last Devil Site visit netted me two small humidors with my cigars (sample packs!), I needed some beads for those new humidors as well, so I decided to just grab a 1-lb bag from Viper. So now I'm trying 65% everywhere.
So I converted a small round puck that normally comes with a sponge into a bead-puck, and it seems to be doing great. Though I think the humidor may have a small leak -- it doesn't stay at 65%. Could also be recent weather changes around here (getting colder outside, so the heat kicks on and probably dries out everything -- I know I've noticed my cats and static electricity lately). Today I converted the large rectangular sponge-filled humidifer that came with my "175-225 aka 100 ct" humidor into one filled with 65% beads, and I've removed the two 70% Pucks. So we'll see how things work out. I'll have to post some pics of that at some point. I should have snapped pics as I was doing it, but of course I didn't. :P

Re: Your Humidity Choice - 65% or 70%?
Started out with the ever popular PG and florist foam. Quickly upgraded to two bead tubes, one 65% for the CCs, and another 70% for the NCs. Now the whole cooler is 65% beads. Love them buggers, they never move from 66-67. Smokes are perfect
I switched because I found that at 70, I would take the smoke out an hour or so before I wanted to smoke it, so now I just grab and torch. Less burn issues, especially on maduros, which used to burn like wet logs more than occasionally.

65% Cigars burn better and the flavor is a little more intense, imo.

I'm reading a lot of agreement on 65% for cubans, and for improved burn. Wow. I'm getting a great education here! |

Complete with the 3"x8" media bags that you're using. And that thread is exactly where I got the idea. Thanks again for those instructions -- they made it straight forward. ![]()

Re: Your Humidity Choice - 65% or 70%?
Have never really thought about keeping cigars at any thing other then 70% RH.
Being a smoke more - worry less type of daily smoker, the Rh can swing from anywhere from 63% - 76% before I take note. If it gets higher for more then a day or two, the cigars start to feel soft, swell or burn funny, I'll open the humidor for a while. If it gets lower for more then a couple days, starts dropping or the cigars start to feel dry I add water. I've also noted the RH seems to read higher or lower depending on room temp. Guess I'm lucky, have never had trouble with mold or bugs. Swapped out the old Credo for a puck 100/70 a couple weeks ago in a 150 cigar humidor, it's worked fine so far. I'm thinking about changing it for two puck 50/70's in the 150 and putting two 100/70 in a 300 cigar cabinet. It's 06:15, just finished a Partagas Black pyramid & the 6th cup of coffee, time for breakfast. Have a great day and be well, Demented |
