Coibri vs Xikar
Okay... help me. I'm stuck between buying a lighter or cutter. I'm looking to order either the Colibri Belmont lighter, or the Xikar Xi2 cutter. The question is do I get a lighter that I want or a cutter I need to replace the cheapos I have now. I need the cutter "now" more so than the lighter, however if I wait till xmas the wife might get me one of the nicer Xi1 or Xi3 that I would like more. Opinions please?

Re: Coibri vs Xikar
I think the more important aspect of enjoying a cigar is not having the wrapper come undone. I would go with a Palio cutter first of all. You can always use matches if you can't afford anything else to light your stogies with, at least till you can save up for a group buy on a lighter

Re: Coibri vs Xikar
alright, I've searched the usual sights, but can't seem to find any where in the US that sells these cutters online. I don't want to order over seas. I'm impatient. Where can I expect to get the best deal from as well?

Re: Coibri vs Xikar
If it were me, I would get the cutter first. You can use a Bic, which does the job intil you get your lighter.
Also I have a Xikar, Rosewood, but I use my Havana Cutter most of the time. In my opinion they cut much better. Havana Cutter $4.99. My next cutter will be a Palio and I use a Prince PB-207 Pocket Torch, both are great, IMO. Last edited by Blaylock; 11-10-2006 at 12:41 AM.. |

Re: Coibri vs Xikar
The Palio it is then. However, it's not covered by my weekly allowence (from the boss) besides she said she wanted to get me one for christmas. Anyone have any reason why I should not order a colibri lighter. I know I can use matches, bics, zippos etc. I don't smoke a lot, so it won't be a 2x a day use item, more like 2x week if I'm lucky. I have the cheap ronson now, just looking for a dress up lighter. Thanks.

Re: Coibri vs Xikar
My Xikar works great, and has for about two years now. I've burned through two Colibris, both junk as far as I'm concerned. I vote Xikar.

Re: Coibri vs Xikar
What Xikar do you have? Is one better then another. As far as I am aware the blades are all the same right?

Here's a quote I found from another thread about Xikar Cutters that might answer your question: "They all have the same blades (440 stainless steel with a hardened Rockwell C rating of 57), the only differences are in the finishes of the handles. Xi - Aluminum body Xi2 - Lightweight nylon fiberglass composite Xi3 - The "Spectra" has the titanium nitride BODY to give it that cool look, The rest have exotic wood handles The "Mammoth" has 10,000 year old Mammoth Ivory handles The "Tech" has rubberized handles Hope this helps! (btw - Cigarmony is an authorized Xikar dealer) ~Mark" Last edited by Blaylock; 11-10-2006 at 12:50 AM.. |

Re: Coibri vs Xikar
Save your money and DO NOT buy the Colibri. I have had many Colibri lighters and only have one that I like which is a soft flame CEO model with a built in cutter. Colibri lighters are expensive and prone to have problems and their customer service is not the best. I would suggest you save your money and buy a Dupont Xtend which has a jet flame. You cant go wrong with Xikar or Palio. RJT

Re: Coibri vs Xikar
Fortunately for me I have never had a problem with my Colibri's. However, I would still go for a Palio cutter before a nicer lighter. If you are willing to wait there are new Palio's coming out in Carbon fiber and Burlwood. Cigarmony has pix.

Re: Coibri vs Xikar
I say get a cheaper cutter and save up for a sweet lighter such as Dupont XTend. You most likely only use the cutter once but the lighter many times.

Re: Coibri vs Xikar
I would have to say get the cutter, and then you can get a cheap-o Ronson at Wal-Mart. They are quality lighters, and they're butane/torch lighters... you're set both ways!

Mark is one of the best ever to deal with. His speed in shipping is simply amazing.I have both the Palio and Xikar - Xi3 - and the edge has to go to the Palio when it comes to cutting. HiTech looks - the Xikar wins. As for Colibri lighters - you stand a greater chance of getting one the does not work properly than you do of getting one that does work. That said I have a old Colibri - guess it's at least 16 years old - that I just last year sent back for a cleaning. Then there are the several others that I just plain old tossed. Good luck with it - Ron |
