cedar trays in coolerdor?

Hey all,
I have 5 of the cedar trays form cheaphumidors. I plan on putting them in my coolerdor for my singles. I'm running 65% beads. Do you think I should "season" them by wiping them down with a towel moistened with distilled water before putting them in, or should I just load 'em up, and put them in?

I have those same trays. Great deals for the price. Personally I would not worry about it - I'd just load them up and install them. They are thin and will not take long to adjust. On the other hand - if you wish to wipe them down, you certainly will not hurt anything.

You'll be fine just sticking them in there. I put four of them in my cooler a couple months ago without seasoning, and the humidity didn't waver.

However, as Ron says, it won't hurt them to season them.

I wiped mine down...seems to take a little longer for everything to equalize if ya don't. My humi took just a day to get to 62% and that is where it stays.

I've never bothered to wipe then down and never had a problem. I don't think you'll go wrong either way.

Re: cedar trays in coolerdor?

I'm in the category of never bothered to wipe them down and never had a problem. I have 12 in my coolerdor. It balanced rh the first day using beads. The cooler holds RH so good that they should stabilize very quickly.

If you wipe them down just make sure they absorb the moisture before putting cigars on them for obvious reasons.

Re: cedar trays in coolerdor?

That is a great idea man. I think I am going to be ordering some of these for my cooler-dor. My cooler is over run with singles in various size bags. It's a nightmare to find anything!

Re: cedar trays in coolerdor?

I didn't bother with wiping them down either. The reason I didn't is when I have put any extra water (in this case from the trays) into the cooler the RH has shot up. I hardly ever have to add any water to my beads to maintain a perfect 65%. If you do wipe down the trays, make SURE the water has absorbed or the beads might be overwhelmed.
In a wooden humi it is not so much an issue as it is in a sealed cooler. Small water changes make a bit difference in my experience.

Re: cedar trays in coolerdor?

I got it all set up this evening. I didn't wipe 'em down. Now my singles and bundles have a little "breathing" room.

Just an update...

I've had the 5 trays in the cooler for a week or so now. Coolerdor is rock solid 65% now.
