This has to be a good deal....right??

I found out yesterday that where I work, has brought in a large stock of one Cigar humidor. Its an absolute beauty of a thing, spanish ceder lining, the works.

It has a 100 cigar hold count, and is only £41 including VAT!!

Sounds like a stupid question I know, but, does anyone think this is a great deal??

Vat = Value added Tax and other random UK taxation..... its there version of import taxes or state tax.....

I think it would be much cheaper to have someone buy it in the USA and then ship it to you. The prices on humidors etc in the UK are silly. For what you can get for $100 USD here is like spending $300USD over there! Just my .02

Re: This has to be a good deal....right??

Well, I went into work today on my day off and bought the humidor this post is all about. Its absolutley beautiful.

100 Cigar capacity for only £41, that seems damn great to me since another one I was looking at was only a 30 Cigar capacity for £170.

Now all I have to do is get it out of its box, and figure out how to set it up right

I'll post some pics of it later on when I can. It truely is a beautiful humidor, and the Spanish cedar inside smells colossal

When I'm setting up my Humidor's humidifier, would it be possible to use water from my tap?

We live in the countryside in the middle of nowhere and our water comes from a natural well source, the water is perfectly clean since its been filtered through the natural layers in the ground.

Would this be acceptable?

cheers guys

The water may come from springs and plenty clean but it still carries minerals (probably more than most types of water) so I would recommend going with distilled water.

I think there's at least one other thread on finding distilled water in the UK. When I was over there a few years ago and needed some, the only place I could find it was in an old-fashioned pharmacy. I believe someone had success at an autoparts strore, as well.

Re: This has to be a good deal....right??

Since I don't as yet have a great number of cigars just now, (I think I have only 8 in my possession just now) I'm planning on getting a box of 25 for christmas sometime.

Unfort, my humidor is still in its box, I haven't taken it out yet as I've been advised not to use water for the humidifier, and I'm unsure as to if the humi comes with humidification solution.

Anyway, would there be any problems for the cigars in say, getting a box of H.Upmann Monarch cigars, then taking them out of their tubes and transfering them to the humidor?

Re: This has to be a good deal....right??

I believe you can purchase distilled water at an autoparts store like the previous poster mentioned. Distilled water is what real car enthusiasts use to mix with coolant as regular water builds up minerals in a car's water pump. I think the certain bottle waters are also distilled like Disani. I think that stuff is triple distilled. Regarding taking cigars out of there tubes, make sure not to mix them as they may take each other's flavor characteristics.

Oh yes, look into getting some heartfelt beads. If you like I can send you some to try in your humidor. Free of course.

When I come to seasoning my Humidor in time for christmas, if I can't get hold of distilled water for the humidifier, then i'm guessing using humidification solution would be ok to use?
