RH Too High?

I've searched the threads, but I guess I wasn't too thorough as I didn't find anything similar to mine (also--are there advanced search features kinda like what google has--i.e. using plus/minus signs and quotes?).

Anyway I have used the calibration packs from Humidipak to check out my 2 digital hygrometers which are within +/- 3%.

I have purchased 65% beads and use them in a large tupperdor which is full. What I'm noticing is that the RH level is usually at 71-73. The beads have a decent proportion of clear/white and this reading has been consistent the past week or so. I'm not really panicking since the level is not too bad.

To lower the level, should I try to add more cedar blocks? I'm thinking maybe I got a mislabeled packaging of the beads and actually got the 70% variety.

Any thoughts?

Re: RH Too High?

What do you mean by "adding cedar blocks"

If you are adding chunks of wood that may be throwing off you RH depending on how much water was in the wood.

Also if you have recently added a decent quantity of new cigars this can cause an elevation in RH but should level out after a few days. You could try leaving it open for 1-2 hours and then close it and see if that lowers it a bit.

Dry all the beads and let them soak up the extra moisture. Take another rh reading in a few days.

That is what I would have suggested as well.
