Could I convert this thing into a humidor?

http://www.target.com/gp/detail.html...sin=B000G1WB5K

My questions are:

1. Am I insane?
2. What, if any, modifications would I have to make to it aside from lining it with Spanish cedar?
3. Does the refrigeration mechanism in an appliance like this release moisture?
4. Am I an idiot?

Re: Could I convert this into a humi?

It would be very easy. Just throw your cigars in there and go. Boxes will provide plenty of cedar. You can do a search on this site for wine coolers and see plenty of ideas regarding the refrigeration. I use one and just leave it unplugged as I keep my house below seventy degrees.

1. I don't know!

2. Depending on it's temp range, you may need to add a thermostat to keep it at 70, these can be found at brewing supplies. It may not need to be lined with cedar, depending on the interior material. A humidification system designed for the volume of this case.

3. Don't know, a good humidification system should take care of that. I believe.

4. I don't know

There's a buttload of very useful info already out there.

Go to the advanced search page, search on keyword(s) 'wine cooler' and select 'Search Titles Only'.

Re: Could I convert this into a humi?

1. leave it open and let it gas for about 3-4 weeks (let the plastic breath)
2. wash it with baking soda
3. good digital hygrometer(bargainhumidors.com)
4. 1.5 lbs of beads (heartfeltindustries.com)
5. break the tabs that hold the wine racks
6. put 1/4 inch planks (rockler.com)

BOOM! and u have this: Actually mine are the 32 count versions:

HOPE THAT HELPS...

There is a sticky on wine coolers at the top of this section. Project will work.

Re: Could I convert this into a humi?

i think its too small. mine was a 50+ bottle wine cooler and i paid about as much as you would pay for this smaller one. shop around and see what you can get the holidays are a great time to pick up good deals. as far as temp control it works really well, best purchase i've made for my cigars especially through the texas summers.

Re: Could I convert this into a humi?

1. Don't know
2. Possibly a temp controller, beads, cedar
3. No, from what I've been told because it is thermoelectric it should not create moisture
4. No. There are plenty of people on here including myself that have already done the same thing you want to do.

Hope this helps and good luck.

Scott
