Humidor

What would be a good starting humidor? what is exactly needed for a humidor?

Links to sites or anything would be helpful. I smoked my first cigar (AWESOME) and have some more I would like to store and end up buying.

I will have about 20 cigars.

Re: Humidor

Here's a few places I have bookmarked.

cubancrafters.com
tampahumidor.com
bargainhumidors.com
cheaphumidors.com

I bought a Vicksburg from bargain humidors and I love it. It's discontinued, but by the time you have access to the FS forums there may be one on there. Hope this helps a little.

Re: Humidor

All the above are good places to try. A bit of advice is to go bigger than you think you'll need. Otherwise you'll wind up with a room full of humi's
The jungle has a way of doing that. Might consider a coolador as well for down the road. Once you hit the slope it's hard to stop!!!

Re: Humidor

Just be careful about going too large. Considering it is only your first cigar and you are still feeling out if you will really like it..... I'd go no larger than a 200 count humidor. On the links above look into that size and below...

Now... had you said you've been smoking on and off for years... or that you are getting serious about your cigars or something I would ALWAYS tell you to go big. I just would hate to see you do that only to be giving it up in a few months for one reason or another.

Re: Humidor

Hey cody,

There are some good deals on eBay offered by sellers like Robusto's, Tampa and others who sell the same humidors on their website's for more.

The auction for this one from RObusto's, closed at $20.50. It cost $40.13 with shipping, and was at my door in 3 days.

Dmntd

p.s. As mentioned before, don't count on the humidor holding as many cigars as the seller says it will.

Best advice is to always buy larger than what you think you need. Remember that a 100 count humidor will not hold 100 cigars - divide the listed amount in half to get a fair idea.

Once again offers sage wisdom!! Always take the number and cut it in half; it will prevent you from being dissapointed when the 100 Ct only holds 50 cigars...

Re: Humidor

T'is true, a 100 ct. will at most hold 75 or 80, and that's if most are small in size.

Go LARGE or Go buy another humi in a few months. Trust me on this. I thought I needed about 20 or 30, I got a 100 and now I'm out of room in my humi and my tupperdor.

Better advice has not been spoken here. Believe RGD

Re: Humidor

Gotta agree on the "Go Big" statements.

I bought a 75 count humi in Sept. and just bought a 500 count yesterday from Mark at Cigarmony, with a lb. of 65% beads. I'm also pretty damn sure that I'll see a coolidor in my fairly near future....especially if I start buying boxes instead of my current singles purchases.

Re: Humidor

I just started getting into cigars back in the late spring of this year, bought my first humidor (a "150" count) and its gone down hill from there. It's got barely 90 in there (if that) and now I have that humidor plus two tupperdors.

I second/third/fourth everyone that says if you can, go big because inevitably you will need the space.

I'm bummed now cause I'd love to have a Vicksburg (I like the window) but they've been discontinued.

You will have to season your humidor. Here is a good article if you want to get some reference.
Storing Cigars

Also you might want to consider getting bead to regulate your humidity. There is a sticky that tells you all about them in this forum.

Beads FAQs

You can purchase beads here:

Alot to digest but you have to start sometime.

Good luck.
