Digital hygrometers
Quality synthetic hair hygrometers like Adorini & Credo, indicate reliably over the total scale range when calibrate.
Are digital hygrometers really more accurate and reliable? Or is the popularity of these instruments more akin to that of quartz over automatic movements in watches? Dmntd

And with the addition of the new calibration hygrometers, being dead on is easy to achieve with regular calibration. http://www.cigarmony.com/store/produ...roducts_id=437 Hope this helps ~Mark |

Re: Digital hygrometers
Not at all. It is much more difficult to measure RH accurately than it is to mesure time. The biggest beef I have with analogs is that the slightest bump can set them off by 2-3% in either direction. They are just too finicky. At least for my taste. I keep the one on my humi for aesthetics, cuz they are pretty.

Re: Digital hygrometers
IMHO, the key to RH as it relates to cigar storage is if your cigars burn & taste to your liking using an anolog hen stick with it!

Re: Digital hygrometers
There are analog hygrometers that indicate the rh just as accurately as the digital hygrometers discussed here, the problem is those analog hygrometers are hundreds and sometimes thousands of dollars in cost. An analog hygrometer that is in the $20-$30 range is not as accurate as a comparably priced digital.
Using your comparison, a $15 dollar digital watch will keep better time than a $15 mechanical analog watch. You must compare apples to apples.

Re: Digital hygrometers
Having read many post, where it's suggest to go with digital over analog hygrometer's, got me wondering how much of this was based solely on preference.
What people liked and disliked about the two types. I've read everything I can find online about hygrometer's, Incuding the history, Leonardo da Vinci built the first crude hygrometer in the 1400's. Everything I could find on hygrometer's made for humidor's, suggest an accuracy range of +/- 2-5% for both digital and synthetic hair analog. Comparing watches was a question of perceived quality, I used Zenith because not many people have heard of them. Comparing Citizen Quartz to Hamilton Automatic might be a good match for perception of value. Thank you all, Dmntd p.s. A certified +/- 0.5% RH analog hygrometer is only $200.00.

If you want to spend $200 on a hygrometer then go for it. But I bet my $20 Radio Shack Digital special works just as good for what I need it to do. And if I drop it I"m not to worried. |

Re: Digital hygrometers
I have three or four hygrometers all Digital, the analog guages never seemed accurate, for very little money buy a digital (brand your choice) salt test it and your done... 25 bucks or less.

Re: Digital hygrometers
I recommend the adjustable digital hygrometers. They are called hygrosets and can be purchased online. Tampa Humidors has a good deal on them and you get a calibration pack with it for less than $20. Shipping is super fast too. I got mine in 2-3 days. Takes the guesswork out of things and they are easy to use.

Re: Digital hygrometers
Thanks again for all of your input.
I should have made this a pole, asking which type why. That's really what I wanted to know. I'm happy with Credo analog. It's what came in the first humidor I bought, and what's gone in every box that's come along since. Heheh, one of them has been in service at least 12 years without a problem. Be well, Dmntd
