Humidor Question

I have a Humidor thats about 40 or 45 ct. I only usually have about 10 to 20 cigars in there. I used distilled water in my humidifier and my hygrometer shows around 65% when there aren't any cigars in there and climbs higher when I put them in. Is this correct? Should the humidity be different if the humidor is not full with cigars? I read somewhere that the desired humidity is 60 to 70% when the humidor is filled to the brim, but I never usually have enough to fill my humidor. Thanks

Re: Humidor Question

Keep it more full (50% or more)....usually when cigars are put in a humidor the humidity drops...not rises...at least for me.... 65% is perfect

Re: Humidor Question

Cigars will store humidity, so if you have more in there, and you are still filling your humidifier the same fequency, you will in effect be causing this. I don't know if this is what you are doing, but you shouldn't have to fill it with water as much with the sticks in it.

Re: Humidor Question

If you're running 65% you are fine, imo. If you have an analog hygro, I suggest picking up a digital for peace-of-mind.

It's probably going up because of the new cigars and how they had been previously stored. I can pick up a handfull of cigars at my b&m and put them in the humi and the rh will rise slightly because the b&m's rh was at 70-72% and mine is 63-65%. So the cigars are just letting off some steam, raising the rh. Everything should return to normal within a few days.

Re: Humidor Question

Yea thats probably what is happening because they are new.....thanks.

I usually don't have enough money to buy more than one box of cigars at a time, is it a problem if I don't keep my humidor full?

Re: Humidor Question

I don't think so...Just not as well regulated as it could be....Go to JR cigars and get a bundle (25) of conseugra #9's to fill up the space ...under $30 and their great.

Re: Humidor Question

I have a Boveda Humidity Control pack for desktop humidors that says it keeps a relative humidity level of 69....it says you can just throw it in the humidor.....should I use this instead of the distilled water humidifier that came with my humidor.

Re: Humidor Question

Hey I checked out the JR site and I don't see a #9 Consuerga. Since I like more full and rich tasting cigars should I try one of the Maduro ones ya think?

Re: Humidor Question

I would skip that and get some beads. They are much easier to work with. You can find info on them (and purchase as well) here:

As already stated, not keeping your humi full is not a problem. Having more cigars in there helps in keeping things stable but is not a nessecity.

I also highly recommend the beads....they make life a little easier.

Beads are the way to go really. Just get 'em now, you won't regret it!
