Selecting the Perfect Fridgador

Done some reading on fridgadors on the site but I am still some what lost in what are all the attributes needed in picking a good base for a fridgador.

I am leaning to this model below. However I am unsure if it is Thermo Electric (which I understand is the right way to go) plus does anyone have experience/ideas with the "Humidity Reservoir" in this unit - help or hinderance.

Any thoughts you can supply are appreciated and a nudge in the right direction would be great since I doubt I can resist the urge to buy for more then a few weeks.

That model isn't thermoelectric, it's a compressor unit. If I'm not mistaken, Danby has ceased production on the larger thermoelectrics and only the 6 btl chillers are still thermoelectric. Someone correct me, please.

Nevertheless, a compressor unit will work fine, you just have to watch the humidity...and check for condensation forming on the cooling element in the back and then draining into the indention/catch tray along the back wall. If you go this route, add a couple cheap computer fans or Oust fans to increase circulation along that cooling element, and this will help mitigate the issue somewhat. Use beads or a cigar oasis to keep the humidity up. You can go a step further by removing the wire racks and adding in planks of spanish cedar as your shelving--this will help maintain the right humidity, although if you're storing your stogies in cedar boxes, you're getting much of the same effect. Finally, if you go with a compressor unit, put it in the room with the most stable air temp and/or the naturally coolest part of your abode, which will minimize the # of times the compressor has to kick on to cool the unit. There are some good threads that cover all the ins/outs of these various steps (that's how I learned to set up my two fridgadors)...and good luck! You'll be buying palets of cigars in no time

muziq, telling it like it is.

If possible, I say avoid the compressor models for all of the reasons muziq listed. It's just much easier to go with the TE unit. I have the Edgestar 28 which is thermoelectric and has a small fan built into the back of the unit. As with any humidor, go bigger than you think you'll ever need.

That seems to be the problem though the compressor models seem to be the bigger models.

Agreed, I think the 28 bottle units are about as big as I've seen that were thermoelectric.

Since that picture was taken I've played a bit of box tetris to add one box and make room for one more that is on the way. I smoke mostly coronas, if you smoke mostly toros and churchills I'm sure it would fill up faster.
