Beads question
I tried several searches and couldn't find an answer so here's my question. Can one have to many beads in a humi? I have 70% beads in my humi and it keeps bouncing up past 80%. I have calibrated my hygrometers. ( I have three (all salt tested) and am getting consistent RH from all three of them.) I don't think the beads are saturated as there is a decent % white so theoretically they should have room to absorb more humidity. I have about 1/3 pound in a medium sized savoy desktop humidor 50-60 count. Thanks.

Re: Beads question
That's probably a bit much for that size although I don't think it should overhumidify seeing as how the beads regulate themselves so to speak. I have a 100 ct. humi and have a tube of beads in it. I think it amounts to 3-4 oz. of beads. If you really want to test it place some dry beads in and see what happens.

Re: Beads question
Dry out your current beads. Use a hair dryer and make them all white (cover up the beads though... they'll fly all over the place if just placed on a plate). Then place them back in the humi. Also, let the humi air out a bit. Leave it open for 20-30 minutes. Let it sit a day and see what happens. Sometimes either the cigars, humi, or beads are too wet. Sometimes all three add up to make some issues. The latter could be your case.
Let us know what happens.

Re: Beads question
No; you cannot have too many beads. In fact, having more makes it easier to maintain stability. However, as others have stated, it is possible to have beads that are too wet. 30-50% need to remain dry; or they will have no ability to absorb RH when it is too high.

Re: Beads question
Ok I have some unused beads in reserve. I'll drop those in and see if they regulate things.

Re: Beads question
As folks have said you cannot put too many Heartfelt beads in a given humidor. The advantages of more than the minumum is increased time before the beads need to be re-hydrated and the humidor will recover quicker after the lid is opened. If you have a less than good seal the extra beads will be especially beneficial.
