Need help with Radioshack USB scale

For some reason I can't get my RadioShack USB scale to work with my new computer (XP, not Vista). I've tried both the USB 2.0 and regular USB ports. The software runs and the scale shows as being connected but it won't register the weight of anything that I place on it. Tried uninstalling and reinstalling the software a couple of times but still no luck. Even bought another scale from eBay thinking mine was broken but same problem with the new scale.

Has anyone else have this problem and can suggest a fix? Thanks in advance.

Sounds like a driver problem, did you install and/or update the drivers for the device?

You can also try unplugging any other usb devices before plugging the scale in.

Yep, tried all of that. No success.

Just a thought. Try another USB cable. I've had similar things happen with printers and cameras using cables that had been apparently folded for storage too many times. The device would show up but not work right. New or other cable and everything worked fine.

This just MAY be the solution! At least it's worth a try! BTW, I use the Radio Shack USB scale running XP, and have had no problems whatsoever.

Might try removing and reinstalling the USB Controller drivers and then reboot and they will reinstall...

I didn't have any problems with this same scale on my older XP computer, but my new computer won't run the scale. It recognizes it, it just won't register any weight when placed on the scale.

You mean the driver for the scale? Tried that several times without any luck.

I think he means the actual motherboard drivers for the USB controller. If you built the computer they should be on a disk that came with the motherboard. If it's a premade computer they should be available on the manufacturer's website. Sometimes even Windows Update will have them. It's worth a shot.

Correct. The only issue would be if your keyboard is a USB one (it would stop working when you remove the USB Controller). Typically Windows will reinstall the drivers automatically for the USB controllers...

Re: Need help with Radioshack USB scale

Check your BIOS to see if legacy keyboard/mouse support is enabled and if it is turn it off. While you are there check to make sure that all usb ports are enabled. If that does not work try another usb port.

Re: Need help with Radioshack USB scale

usb devices often times need to be installed in a very specific order (i.e. install software/ drivers first, reboot, then plug in actual usb device)

if you didn't do this "correctly" the first time, sometimes its torturous to get it working, but some combination of trying to remove drivers, reboot, reinstall, plug in will work.

Re: Need help with Radioshack USB scale

Just to double check. You did turn off your computer and unplug all other usb devices except the scale and power back up. )You might even want to uninstall and reinstall in this configuration.) You can open the software and it doesn't show detached or error. You are plugging directly into the computer not using a usb hub.
