Does it matter if I store stogies in the lacquer boxes they come in in my coolador? It seems that I have read that lacquered boxes should not be used for storing the stogies.
If not, why? Thanks in advance for the replies.

Re: lacquer box in a coolador
If you are talking about varnished boxes, IMO, you shouldn't worry about putting them in your "coolador".

First I have heard of that. I mean you know a lot of Humidors are lacquered so I don't see where the problem would be. I'm guessing I have several lacquered boxes in my coolers at the moment.

Re: lacquer box in a coolador
I have several laquered cigar boxes in my coolers, and have had no problems. However, since my coolers are all humidified with Heartfelt beads, I use a little trick to assure that airflow reaches the boxed stogies... That is, I undo the box lid clasps and prop the lids up just slightly by laying a Q-tip or two along the lid edge.

Re: lacquer box in a coolador
I have read somewhere that if you do store them in laquered boxes it is ok for a few months, but as far as a few years, no. Has something to do with chemicals releasing.

Re: lacquer box in a coolador
i would stick with just plain unfinished cedar cigar boxes inside a coolidor, any other chemicals and materials you put in there can only hurt the cigars not help. plus you'll most likely end up with a much lighter coolidor

Re: lacquer box in a coolador
I had the same issue with my coolerdor set up and did a search, and well needless to say, this topic is about as hammered down as the cello on/off debate. Anyhow, I went as far as to pull the sticks out of their boxes (the lacquered ones of course) and let the boxes themselves air out for a few days, which severely minimized the lacquer smell. Could I tell a difference, no, of course not, but I slept better, and thats what really counts.

Re: lacquer box in a coolador
Awhile back, I received 5 boxes of Sancho Panza Dbl Maduros. They come in black, laquered boxes and I swear the boxes smelled like they'd been spray painted the day before. I took all the cigars out of the original boxes and put them in boxes I had laying around. No way would I put those types of boxes in my Igloodor.
