Light in my winecoolerdor?

Hey Guys,
There is a little blue-ish light inside my new Edgestar cooler. Of course, its nice when its on as it illuminates the pr0n, but I am a bit worried to leave it on.

Any thoughts on this?

Thanks!

I have the same thing. It's an LED, unless I'm mistaken, so it's not really going to give off much heat. But I just leave it out because I have tinted glass in the door so even with the light on I can't see much in there. Not sure what the effects of an LED light are on wrappers, I'm sure someone here could tell you more.

What concerns you about the light? Heat?

Perhaps some of the younger cigars use it for a night light.

Yeah, primarily the heat, but also on wrappers as I have one open cedar tray in there with some singles.

How well do these Edgestars work? Are you happy with them as a storage unit?

Re: Light in my winecoolerdor?

Boston_Dude,
I just got it a couple days ago and loaded in the cigars late last night. So far so good.

The temp seems to hold in the mid-60's with some variation from top to bottom (I didnt buy a Temp Controller). When I left for work this morning the humidity had risen from about 40 (which was the ambient room temp when I loaded it) to about 60. Im hoping when I get home from work that itll be up to 65. If not I'll add more beads (I have about 1 1/4 pounds in there at the moment with 2 oust fans). The unit has a fan built into it too.

Can report more after a week or so...

Any aroma in it from the fridge? Curious about it since the temp controlled cabinets typically run several K.

Boston_Dude,
I washed it down with a distilled water-baking soda solution (I dont like to mess with chemical cleaners). Afterwards, I rinsed with distilled then put a bowl of baking soda in there for 48 hours.

There was still a plastic-y smell but not nearly as strong as before, but as with my previous coolerdor experience, Ive never been truly able to get rid of that smell. Once I let the baking soda do its thing for 2 days or so I filled it to the brim with cedar boxes which usually overpowers everything.

Shouldn't do anything regarding heat (LEDs give off very litle heat), and it wont' have an impact on cello, either--that kind of material takes a long time to react to light. Eventually everything reacts to light in some way, although it's often imperceptible. Unless you're planning to give these sticks to your great-great-great-great-grandchild, I wouldn't worry about a light reaction.

Now if it was a high-watt incandescent bulb and the stogies were realy close to it, that would be of some concern. I think you're fine though...

Re: Light in my winecoolerdor?

I've had my Edgestar 2 weeks. So far so its been good. I have it about 2/3 full. It's holding at 68 rh. It's a little cool in the middle where the fan is located-around 62. The bottom and top stay at 64 to 65. It already smells like a humidor.

Re: Light in my winecoolerdor?

Sorry to be a pain, but Im going to bump this thread as Im running into some problems.

When this thing is turned on, Im getting temperatures right where I want them mid/low 60's. The thing is RH drops down to ~50%. If the thing is uplugged, RH is steady at 65.

Ive read about the RH fluctuating as the units cooled, but my RH just gets drops then stays that way. Also, this is a thermo unit so I figured it wouldnt have such a wide range

Any ideas fellas?
