Alcohol puts Cigar Oasis XL PLUS out of WHACK!
I tried to put a few drops of 99% rubbing alcohol in the green sponge but ended up putting a bit more accidentally. Probably less than half a teaspoon, well I noticed that the Cigar Oasis began to read the humidity about 2% higher than it actually is. Has anyone else noticed this ever? Or am I the first? Does anyone care? LOl

I read on the forums somewhere it prevents mold. I think it was from RJT but I dont want to put words into peoples mouths

alcohol has a different evaporation rate than water, it's probably affecting it, but once the alcohol all evaporates off, you should be ok. hopefully.

I put 65% beads in mine, it works much better now. Work like a champ! I have a much steadier RH now.

I have used a VERY SMALL amount of alcohol in my Oasis units for along time with know problems. When I say small I mean small. I mix several drops in a large container of Distilled water. Lets say a cap full per gallon of water. This does not affect anything and is great for mold prevention. I never put alcohol directly in the Oasis unit itself. Yes the uasis foam is supposedly treated with something but I still use this method for over 2 years and never had a problem. Hope this clears things up.

I use vodka, it works like a champ. A few drops here and there. Also, i've got a small shot glass filled with distilled water and a couple of drops of vodka. The water is clear as crystal still even after i've added more water.
The desert is dry in winter and the shot glass helps immensly.
