Question Airport Security Help!!!

I'm going away soon by air and need some info.

I haven't flown in quite a long time, and hear that airport security is a real pain in the ass lately due to 911 and all that stuff.

I really want to bring my guilotine cutter, and two boxes of sulfur free matches. I would of rather brought my cigar lighter but I'm worried that it will not be allowed on, from what I've heard, and I'm worried if I pack it on my check luggage it might get stolen.

Is there any suggestions on how to get my cutter through? I plan to smoke a few cigars while I'm away so I really want to get it through. I also own a cigar puncher but lately I've found I like the guilotine one a lot better so please do not suggest the punch as I've read other posts about how to get a punch through.

The only idea I have is for my sulfur free matches, I'll stuff them down my boxer shorts so they get through since they contain no metal. You think that will work? I've done similar stuff at nightclub security pat downs and got stuff through.

What ya think?

Re: Airport Security Help!!!

I've flown with a guillotine several times since 9/11. Torch lighters they confiscate though, I lost my first butane lighter that way. I'm not sure about the matches though, I hear there is some restriction on them, but I don't know the specifics. I'd try to bring them on in your bag, and if they take them, just grab some new matches in your destination.

Re: Airport Security Help!!!

Your cutter and matches are no problem, if your flying to the US don't take your lighter, they took mine last year. Other than that you should be ok.

Question Re: Airport Security Help!!!

Thanks for the info.

I really hope that the guillotine will not be a problem as the reason I'm worried is because my brother recently just flew down to L.A. and they wouldn't allow him to bring nail scissors!

He said the airport security took over two hours!!!

Forgot to ask. Can I pack my guillotine on my travel bag or does it have to be checked? I'm asking cause I really don't want someone opening my check bag for so many reasons.

Re: Airport Security Help!!!

Good luck. Last time I flew the security left the smokes alone. They did take the matches, lighter, and one of my cutters, which were all in my checked bag. So either way good luck hope it all works out for you.

Re: Airport Security Help!!!

I wonder if some of the taken cigar lighters, cutters etc.. are really taken because of the security risk, or because they want your stuff for themselves to own or sell.

Bet it's a bit of both, don't ya think?

Re: Airport Security Help!!!

Where are you going? Is there enough time to mail it using USPS? A few bucks to ensure your stuf wont get tossed and/or stolen might be worth it.

Re: Airport Security Help!!!

Put everything in your checked baggage. Also, check airline website for info on what's allowed.

Re: Airport Security Help!!!

I usually put a cheap cutter in with my cigars in my carryon, and don't bring lighter or matches (buy a cheap lighter whereever you're going).
I've never had the cheap cutter taken.

Talking Re: Airport Security Help!!!

I've got an idea.

I'll risk putting it in my check luggage. I'll place it in a clear zip-lock bag and put a note saying:

"Please don't steal me! I'm not worth much anyway!!!".

Re: Airport Security Help!!!

I agree, put it all in your checked baggage! I forgot once and had a pocket knife in my carry-on. They told me they would either confiscate it or I could ship it to my destination and showed me where I could mail it at (there was a mailbox at the airport).

But if in doubt, don't bring it. Although the previous experience was Ok, I've had nothing but problems with them. I think they don't like me for some reason.

Re: Airport Security Help!!!

Cigar cutters are fine, either carried-on or checked. See the list here http://www.tsa.gov/assets/pdf/Prohib...ly_3-16-07.pdf

For a lighter, I typically carry a Zippo with a Z-Plus insert inside a TSA-approved OtterBox case, checked.

Re: Airport Security Help!!!

Check the TSA website, As i remember the current regs, cigar cutters are ok in carry on & checked, matches ARE NOT allowed in either, lighters in TSA approved containers are OK for checked luggage only (do a search on the containers, many retailers seem to carry them now)

Thumbs up Re: Airport Security Help!!!

Those darn terrorists make us cigar smokers lives harder for traveling!!!

I'll put it in my checked bag. I just hope no one steals anything of mine as I have some Tommy Bahama silk shirts I bought that were very expensive and can see someone wanting them.

I've never gotten anything stolen from my check bag before but know a few people who have. Also I own clothes that are kinda rare and very expensive. Also, if I pack my cutter on then they now have a reason to look inside my bag.

Oh well. Thanks again for everyone's suggestions.
