This is an awesome thread. My only question is how do i get the wires out of the cabinet. Do i drill a tiny hole on the back of the cab. Im going to mount the fan in the top 3rd shelf of mine. Since humidity rises it should work great like this.

Re: Humi Fan 101

OK i cant find the Coby Electronics 1000mA Universal A/C Power Adapter. Any other recommendations around that price range. Theyre about $5.99 online at Radio Shack but i would like to get something now, not having to have it delivered. I found a 12V adapter but it has 3 settings and is $40! Can anyone help? I know i need something 12V. Thanks

i think humidity "settles" rather than rises (or it has in both my cabinet and fridge-a-dor, which is why i had the need for a fan).
most cabinets have a hole in the back bottom so a power cord can come out - the power cord is normally for humidification devices like a "digital set and forget" system found in most aristocrats.

Guys should you follow Gary's (MocoBird) setup. You'll be A-OK! I got everything minus the adapter, which is on the way, from Radio Shack. Use the same equipment thats in the pictures also. Good luck.

on the bottom, similary to moco birds example.
in my fridge-a-dor, i had mine pointed upward from the bottom. it cycled for 5-10 minutes every 2hrs or so. my humidity never fluctuated in the middle, and the humidity was only 2-3 ticks higher on the bottom than on the top. without the fan, my humidity would drop down into the 50s because the fan would not blow it around.
edit - keep in mind, i had nothing that provided humidity other than climmax media.

Re: Humi Fan 101

Heres the low down for me. Im going with (3) 1/2 pound beads from Heartfelt. Im going to place one on the bottom, one in the middle shelf, and one on the top shelf. Im going to drill some holes on the bottom of the singles tray on the top also. Im going to put the fan facing up on the bottom of the humidor, and later add another one on the top shelf. My question is the adapter has a setting for different voltages. 3, 6, 9, and 12. The fan is a 12v, 1000mV fan. I dont have a timer and am not looking into getting one. Which voltage should i run it at if i have to run it full time?

12 volts since that is what the fan is rated at, although it would probably run on lower voltages.

I am still setting up my humidor and I will probably do the same. I have the cooling covered but am waiting on a suitable humidifier. Thinking of a full time fan top and bottom to keep the air moving. This should help even out temp and humidity, I think.

the fan is not in there to keep the humidor cool, it is in there to move the humidity around so it stays evenly dispersed.

if someone takes a hand fan (those old-time fans girls use to wave in their faces) when its 100* outside, all they're doing is moving hot air. to keep something cool, you need something cooler than their current temp, like a cooling unit.

sounds good, and if the humidity gets too high, shorten the duration about 5 minutes and extend the time inbetween cycles by an hour and see if it changes any.
