high humidity with beads
So I just got done seasoning a destop humidor this morning and put some smokes in with a puckifier 50. It was left all day and still read about 80%. Shouldnt the beads keep this down or is it just because I recently seasoned the humi and it will take a while to come down? I don't want to ruin my smokes or get beetles and what not.

Re: high humidity with beads
Not sure what you mean exactly by "seasoning", but if you wiped it down to dampen it, then your humidor and the beads will take time to adjust. You might want to leave the lid opened for awhile, close it, and check the RH again. If it's still too high, do it again. Be patient the beads will eventually catch up.
Just make sure that they aren't too wet. You may want to dry the beads so that they can absorb the excess humidity. All of this advice assumes that your hygro. is accurate. |

Re: high humidity with beads
Just to clarify, are you saying it was holding a steady RH between 65-70 then went up when you put in the puck and cigars? How long have you been seasoning it?

Re: high humidity with beads
It took seven day for my last desktop humi to settle in. I waited till the rh came down to 68 before i put the beads in, then it stayed at 65 constantly. Just be patient. It takes time.

Re: high humidity with beads
Did you fill the beads with water before putting them in? If so they probably have no room for more water.....just wait....it'll settle down SLOWLY.

![]() That is what I was thinking as well. When I first but my beads in my RH was way out of whack (on the high side) for a couple days. |

Re: high humidity with beads
From my experience, the 75% beads give you about 80%.
This will go a bit higher if you wet them too much. I tossed mine and got 65% beads and have been getting 65% readings ever since. .

Re: high humidity with beads
Howdy!
First, calibrate your hygrometer so you know where stand (you should do this at least once a year and when you replace the battery once a year as well). If your RH is too high, simply take the Puck-ifier out of your humidor, open it and spread the RH Beads on a cookie sheet and dry with a hair dryer set on LOW. The hydrated RH Beads will turn white when dry. Once all the RH Beads are dry, put them back into the Puck-ifier and place it back into your humidor. The RH Beads will absorb the excees moisutre to bring your relative humidity down to 70% RH. Hope this helps and please feel free to contact me with any questions! cigarmony @ gmail.com Thanks again for the support, I greatly appreciate it. ~Mark |
