best way to store singles in a cooler?

I have a large number of singles ever since I found cbid and have been buying 5 packs. I have only bought one box in the last year probably. So in my cooler I have about 5 boxes, one of the free "humidors" that CI gives out with certain box purchases, and a whole bunch of loose singles. These run the risk of damage, indeed some of them have been slightly squashed in the past.

Here are some options I have been considering, along with the downside of each option:

1. Buy some of those "humidors" from CI. But yikes, 30 bucks each?

2. Make a box purchase and get one free. That way I get more cigars (always a good thing) and two boxes, basically. More expensive than option 1 but maybe more cost effective.

3. Buy some empty boxes. But I can't stand to pay for something that the seller would otherwise probably just throw away. I guess I am cheap.

4. Go to the B&M but usually they will give me the box if I buy the last cigar from it.

How do you guys handle this situation?

Try buying trays and stacking them.
or trading for trays or empty boxes.

OR

people can just donate boxes to you.

I would help you out but alas I only have made 1 box purchase and that box is still filled.

I'll check my B&M to see if they have any emptys he can spare.

I have a bunch of boxes from several B&Ms in my area. Some of them were given away and some I had to pay for. I remember paying a dollar per box at one store, which seemed like a good deal.

As I started to accumulate more cigars, I invested in some Cedar Trays. They are a bit more expensive than boxes but they keep things organized and neat. You can stack cigars up to 3 rows, and fit 15-20 per row depending on the size. You can stack the trays as well.

Here are two places to get them:

Cedar Trays

More Trays

If you're cheap, go ask the local B&M about a box

I like LFD boxes myself...they're usually solid wood, not plywood.

id put some kind of divider in your cooler to make a section just for stacking loose sticks.

Re: best way to store singles in a cooler?

In my coolerdor, in addition to a half dozen or so cedar boxes of cigars, I have a lot of cigars stored in individual and five finger ziploc baggies; these go into one of four large ziploc baggies, each of which will contain roughly a box full of cigars (20-30). It's not very elegant, but it works for me.

empty boxes from the B&M for me-depending on the depth of the lid, sometimes i'll seperate the lid from the bottom & use them both from trays-i drill holes in the bottom for air circulation-for long term storage i like using slb cedar boxes (bolivar is one that uses em)

Go to your local B&M and see if they will give/sell you some boxes.

That's what I just did and got enough boxes for almost all of my singles! And since they were stored in the humidor they are not going to suck all the moisture out of my cigars!

Thanks for the tips.
