Cabinet with bad seel

I have a trivoli cabinet from tampa humidor that leaks like a bastard. I assumed I would get what I paid for with it, but I now have a cigar oasis xl and a lb of beads in there, and I have to refull the oasis every 2-3 days. It is constantly fluctuating between 65-67. What can I use to improve the seal on this without risking my cigars?

some foam weather strip from home depot...or the vinyl weatherstrip depending on the gap....

is it leaking around the door? or through a bad joint in the wood?

I believe it is leaking from the doors. Will the strips effect how level is closes?

don't worry, a 2% fluctuation won't hurt anything-you have at least that much each time you open the humi-have you tried the light test (flashlight inside humi in a dark room) to see where the leak is?-it does sound as though there's a leak, you shouldn't have to refill that quickly-was the humi seasoned & for how long?-if not properly seasoned, that could explain it-just throwing a few ideas out there-hope one of them helps

I forgot about the light test....it's a great idea...although my personal preference is a bright camping lantern (electric not fuel) this provides the brightest light in the most directions....

but i only did this as I have doors on the top and front of the cabinet.

It was seasoned over the course of a week. The light test won't work too well since I have two huge class doors on it.

Re: Cabinet with bad seel

FWIW... I've had good success using Gulf Wax on the mating surfaces. It's used for canning (a food-safe substance), and is available at most grocery stores. The cool thing about this stuff is that you can warm it, apply a THIN coat, and it will "conform" itself to fill small leaks after opening and closing the humi several times.

I don't think a 2% fluctuation is a bad thing.

It SHOULD "leak". It's not supposed to be SEALED. It's not supposed to be air-tight. It should allow some air flow or else you'll get mold.

Think of your humidity as an "average".

Remember, you don't have to keep cigars "humidified." You just need to keep the from drying out. 65% AVERAGE humidity is perfect, but you shouldn't sweat it so much. Maintain that "average" for long-term storage and you're fine.

the 2% fluctuation I would say is okay, but refilling a Cigar Oasis XL every 2-3 days is unacceptable.
