Deep-Freezeador?

I was looking around the garage today, and something caught my eye: A huge old deep-freezer that we dont use any more. Id say its about 6 feet long, 3 feet wide, and 3 feet deep ish. I was thinking maybe one day I could use it as a Super-Coolerdor...

Would this work? lol...

Re: Deep-Freezeador?

I have thought of this one too. The only concern I had was my ability to "grow" into whatever size of Humidor I have. A coolidor is expensive a Deep Freezidor could be monitary suicide.

Re: Deep-Freezeador?

I would think that as long as the seal is ok, this would work. But you would have to make sure the old freezer wouldn't impart any bad flavors. It might cost you an arm and a leg in beads, but what the heck.

Re: Deep-Freezeador?

I think it would work great. No need to worry about filling it up (right away) nor buying a large quanity of beads. You can use "inert" things to fill up space such as empty coolers (cheap, styrofoam coolers come to mind). Or, anything else that will cut down on the space to be humidified. Perhaps a bunch of the shipping "pillow packs". Remove "filler" and add beads as needed.

Re: Deep-Freezeador?

Frigidaire?? No - Frigidor!!!!!

Actual was going to make a post/pictures of mine. Took an older Frigidaire freezer, added a controller and there ya go - Frigidor.

I use a little over 4 pounds of beads in it - works great.

Re: Deep-Freezeador?

Assuming you can rig a thermo-gauge board in the electronics (radioshack plus time) you can probably even leave the thing on indefinitely (assuming you plan on running it). For something that large, I would invest in an Oasis XL though.

Actually -

You can get THIS controller fairly cheap. It's what I am using. Nothing simpler - just dial in your temp.

and -

An Oasis may not be required at all. Mine produces moisture so I use four pounds of beads to remove the excess humidity. Every other week I dry the beads with a hair dryer.

When I ran the line for the temp controller - I also installed the power cord for an Oasis, just haven't needed it yet.

Re: Deep-Freezeador?

Actually, the Island-a-dor isn't a bad idea... check out these islands for sale in the caribbean.

Nicaragua, Belize, and DR.

We could all chip in and get a Club Stogie Island!!!
