Hygrometer Analog vs. Digital

My problem is which hygrometer to trust, analog or digital? I have a HygroSet digital hygrometer and analog hygrometer that came with my humidor. Both are calibrated to 75% using Humidipak's One-Step Calibration Kit. When I place both in my humidor after a few hours the digital reads ~68% and the analog reads ~60%. A big difference between the two. Does anyone have any insight to when these two hygrometers differ?

I would always trust your digital over your analog. Analogs look good but their utility ends there.

Agreed. And I'd always opt for one that is "certified" vs. one that is not.

Analogs are good for decortation and little else. Get yourself a digital, salt-test it for accuracy, and forget about worrying!

Analogs are simply an ornament used to plug a hole in some humidors. They are about as accurate as the weatherman….now wait a minute weathermen are right sometimes. Trust the digital they are far more accurate and reliable!!

Digital! No question. Certainly more accurate than the analog and definitely more accurate than the weatherman

Re: Hygrometer Analog vs. Digital

I am pretty sure that even the cheapest digi hygrometer will out-perform the typical analog included with humis.

I am not trying to hi-jack this thread but...

Anyone have any comments about the accuracy of the hygrometer included in the OASIS XL ?

Robert

Get a good digital one and be done with it.

All the money you spend on cigars. Its a drop in the bucket to protect them.

Are you saying that the HygroSet digital hygrometer that I have is not a good one?

Re: Hygrometer Analog vs. Digital

No, they're saying the analog ones suck. The one you are mentioning is a cheaphumidor product that is a digital hygrometer that you can bet Dave will help you use if you haven't figured it out yet.

I have one and it was 25 bucks well spent. You do need to calibrate it and either the salt test of boveda packet will work great. Mine was off 2 degrees and a simple 2 clicks on the adjustment dial and I was dialed in.

Re: Hygrometer Analog vs. Digital

Analogs aren't ALL bad. The little, light plastic ones are crap, but I got a heavy metal one with my footlocker humidor. I calibrated it with this:

http://www.famous-smoke.com/cigars/s...cfm/inum/23350

and it's been reliable.

I also keep a digital in the bottom (with the analog in the top) which is accurate too. The analog and digital jive.

Analog is fine if you get a real (metal - they're heavy) one and calibrate it.
