Is 74 degrees to high?

I keep my humidor in my basement in a shady spot and it seems the tem phovers @ 74 degrees in the summer.
I will be keeping my new humi (a Daniel Marshall 20th Anniversary treasure chest-150) @ around 68% humidity with oasis XL and 65% beads. on my basement bar which is granite top so it feels cooler, but the air temp says 74.

Is that temp too high?

No - 74 degrees is not too high at all. Your sticks will be fine - but don't forget to keep the humidity under control

I would only worry if it gets too much higher...

Re: Is 74 degrees to high?

Thanks guys. I'll see about lowering it a few degrees, but glad to know that they'll be fine anyways.

Once that new humi arrives, cigarbid will be my new best friend.

Re: Is 74 degrees to high?

Nah, you should be fine.
But if you're concerned, take a blue ice, wrap it in a small towel,
put a piece of plastic on top of your humi & place the wrapped blue ice on top. Should give it just enough chill to lower the temp a bit.

Mine stays consistently at 75 w/o issues. I do freeze now though before adding them.

Re: Is 74 degrees to high?

I'd be concerned about mold if humidity is high, as well as beetles if it's consistently at 74 and maybe even a bit higher...

I keep mine at 65%RH and 64*F.

Smile Re: Is 74 degrees to high?

I have been living in the desert (Henderson, Nevada) for six years now and in the summer months, even with a strong, efficient AC System, it's very hard to keep the temp below 74 and sometimes even 76 in the house. I researched that issue when I first moved here and came up with the facts that 74, even 76 is not too hot, as long as you keep the RH Factor at 65% or lower. Actually, I have found that 60% / 63% is perfect, when the temp is in the 74 to 76 range.

Re: Is 74 degrees to high?

I agree.......the main problem would be beetles. It is important to keep the humidity down if you're going to run your temp in the mid 70's.

I use 65% beads with no worries.

Re: Is 74 degrees to high?

From what I've read as long as it stays below 79-80 degrees your golden as far as beetles go...

Re: Is 74 degrees to high?

Just don't let it go any higher.

If it goes higher it will be tougher to get down and you will have problems.

Re: Is 74 degrees to high?

In florida in the summer it's impossible to get the house below 75. Humidity is 65-67 most all the time. I have not had any negatives that I would put on heat to the cigars.
