Dumb Hygro Question

I have a pretty simple question. Do digital hygrometers have to be calibrated in seasoning a humidor, or are they immediately able to accurately read humidity? Thanks.

Re: Dumb Hygro Question

Digital hygrometers should be calibrated. You should calibrate it prior to using it to make sure it is acruate if it can not be adjusted you should note the variance.

There are packs you can buy to calibrate them (try Heartfelt or cigarmony two great BOTL on these forums) or the classic salt test. If you search you should be able to find instructions on how to do it.

I personally re-calibrate my hygro every 6 months just to make sure they are still up to snuff - because if it is not calibrated you might as well not have it..

Re: Dumb Hygro Question

But does the salt method work on a digital hygrometer? I know its necessary on an analog but do digitals also have to be calibrated?

Re: Dumb Hygro Question

Yes all hygros should be calibrated. A salt test works the same on either type as they work the simularly just different read outs.

Think of your hygro as a speedometer wether digital or analog it is imapritive that they are calibrated or else the reading they provide you is simply a guess.

Latter on, if you find it way off when calibrating, change the battery.
