You can, but it's not necessary. You can also put a small dish of distilled water in there. It just depends on how much of a hurry you are in. Just make sure the humi is stable when you put your cigars in. A few extra days of seasoning will pay off in the long run.

You can do it and some folks do but I would recommend you don't.
Let a humidifier sit in there until seasoned.
Don't rush it.
If you want to speed it up a bit, take a small remekin and add water and a sea sponge.
However, just remember, good things come to those that wait.
Be patient.

If you use too much water it can cause the spanish cedar liner to warp or grow mold. If you don't use something that is lint free, you can leave deposit/residue on the wood, which is also not good.

Remember - use the water sparingly, keep the wood clean and above all, don't be in too much of a hurry.

Patience is key. I have set up too many humidors in my time - I now just put a small saucer of distilled water inside and wait until it settles in. It takes a lot longer in the winter than it does in the summer.

Don't wipe it down. Why rush perfection. If you season it slowly you will never have a problem in the long run.

What is an extra day or two.

You could also cause the wood to form little splinters, and have a rough texture if you wipe it down. Just put the water in a bowl like others have said and you will be fine. I was in a hurry with mine and heated the water before putting it in there. It didn't work any better than just adding it.

Re: should I wipe the humi with distilled water ?

I think where the problems come in is using too wet of a rag when wiping it down. Be certain the rag is damp only. I've found it accomplishes 2 things: 1. Helps to season it, but honestly if done right, not by very much 2. Removes leftover sawdust. You'd be amazed at how much you pickup when you wipe it down. I've found the more expensive the humi, the less dust, btw.

Re: should I wipe the humi with distilled water ?

lots of good advice given already. never wipe down a humi. shallow dish of distilled water to let the wood slowly absorb the humidity. once it reaches 70% or more and holds steady, then introduce your cigars.

be sure to calibrate your hygrometer.....enjoy your new humi!
