If you have had no cigars inside the humidor, why do you think you found a beetle?

I don't think you have anything to worry about.

prob'ly just someone's short'n'curly.

(ok... just kiddin')

as NC indicated - if cigars have never been in the box, you probably don't have any worries.

Re: help! I think I've found a worm in new humi

Some of you were reading "beetle" when he was asking about a "worm". The two are very different.

You will not have gotten a cigar beetle if you had no cigars in it. However, if the item was not properly manufactured or stored, any number of things could have gotten in it.

If it looked alive, it probably was. I'd recommend not using it at all for another couple weeks and see if anything else appears in it. Inspect it closely for signs of eggs, larvae, or holes of any kind.

Once it appears clean for a couple weeks, season it, but take longer in the seasoning process than normal -- just in case the humidity makes some creature come out of the woodwork. Again, another couple weeks.

Once everything looks good, introduce the cigars just a few at a time, inspect again every couple days. After a couple weeks of that, if you haven't found anything, you're probably in the clear.

Sorry forgot to add- even though I have been seasoning the humi for a few days, the inside of the humi still has a woody smell. When I put cigars in, will that effect the cigars?

Yes, but thats what you want it to do it's perfectly normal for it to smell that way

Depends on what kind of woody it smells like, Pine woody, spanish cedar woody or even a red-woody! Some sticks can have a woody flavor, which the right woody could enhance your experience. I guess I would not care for a woody (flavor) on my palate! But thats not to say others wouldnt mind so much!
