Broken Humi?

So I finally get my humidor and put it in the passenger seat to drive home. An old curmudgeon in front of me randomly slams on the breaks and whips, unsignaled, into a parking lot. I slam on the breaks and my humidor flys off the seat, against the dash, and onto the floor (It was boxed). However now the left hinge clicks when closed and the seal on the left side is juuust slightly more wide than the one on the right. Certainly not propped open but theres a difference. This was the LAST one that my local shop had. Damn. Ill know the answer myself as I season it, but does this change sound like something that would throw a humi off, or is (a VERY little) airflow good? Its not like propped open or anything.

You will just have to go ahead, like normal, and see if it is a problem. You won't be able to tell, if it is not used.

Re: Broken Humi?

Check and see if the screws on the hinge are loose

Re: Broken Humi?

Thanks for the replies. I will get a replacement if it doesn't work, but after a few days of a shot glass with distilled water in there I guess I will know for sure. As long as after about a week the shotglass brings humidity to 70% that means its fine, right?

Re: Broken Humi?

Give the standard "flashlight test" a try. Turn on a flashlight, put it inside the humi in a dark room and see if any light comes out. If a ton comes out, you may have a problem. One possible way to fix this would be a piece of foam tape or weather stripping on the bad side. Hope this helps!
