Your Very Own Pucks
I haven't happened to see it mentioned, so I'll blather.
A number of pretty good, cheap cigars come in plastic "tubos" with a plastic foot plug. With a 3/32 - 1/8" drill, put three rows of holes almost the length of the tube, about 1/4 - 3/8" apart per hole and per row; you want the holes on one side of the tube only. Cut cellulose sponge (or get fancy with flower foam or beads) so the diagonal of the cross-section is a bit more than the tube diameter, and poke it into the tube by carrying the far (top) end of the sponge into the top of the tube with a thin screwdriver. Put it in a cigar box as if it were a cigar. Instant humidor. Use a hygrometer or not, but 50/50 propylene glycol "wants" to maintain about 70% RH. Plain water may have to be looked after. If it's "too long" for the box or tray, saw off the excess tube; the foot plug will still fit. P.S.: I'm disinclined to lay this rig -- or any commerical humidifier -- directly on nude sticks, but you can stick it to the lid of box or humidor with double-stick tape or a couple loops of masking/duck tape inside out. And if you really like it, glue a narrow strip of tin can opposite the holes and a magnet in the box (or go the Velcro-crap route). Enyoy! <---<<< (Northern Minnesota Accent) |
