I have to agree, if you are refilling it that often there is a bigger problem going on here.

. I was just speaking off the cuff. I just refilled it last week for the first time in the 3 months I've had it. In general, while I like active humidifiers so far, the thought of them running out or the power going out while I'm gone is perhaps a decent argument for the beads.

That makes more sense. In actuality you can have a container of beads in a humidor with an active system. The beads will absorb humidity until they are saturated then just sit there. If you have a power failure of the tank runs dry then the beads will start to desorb and keep the humi at the prescribed level until they run out of moisture. A greart insurance policy.

Dave

This is exactly what I did with my new cab. 30 cf. CO II with (so far) 3 lbs of beads on three levels. I'm getting 65 at the bottom and top hygros for the past 3 days. Seems to work well. The beads are around half clear half opaque white. I thought the beads would add "stabilizaton" and just in case for power outages and dunderhead non refills of the CO. Your spec says 6 lbs for this size humi. any value in my upping to 6 with this type of set-up?

With this size humi I would recommend the 6 pounds but you are not using the beads as the primary source of humidification. When using them as stabilization the 3 pound is pretty good. Just remember that the beads will desorb quicker than is normally desired but should hold the humidity long enough for the power to come back on or you get home from a trip, much longer in fact.

Now don't get me wrong here, if you want to buy 3 more pounds I will be gald to sell them to you.
