Re: 77 degrees --Too hot?
I'd be concerned about that temp w/r/t beetle activity. 70 or below is best.

Re: 77 degrees --Too hot?
No they will not. Not for long anyway. 70 is the standard, however most of us know that a few degres temperature variance is not going to make much difference. But a consistent 77 degrees I think is too risky. Get it down bfore the beetles get you.

Re: 77 degrees --Too hot?
I'd recommend finding a cooler spot if possible. I don't even like mine to hit 70 if I can help it.

Re: 77 degrees --Too hot?
I have to ask - where do you guys keep a humidor that it maintains sub-70 degree temperatures? Do you have a basement, or just keep your house very cool? I'll be moving to an apartment in southern California soon, and I think it'll be next to impossible to keep my smokes cool without either spending a fortune on electricity or buying a wine cooler.

Re: 77 degrees --Too hot?
It's a risk. Everything I have read says prolonged 73-74 degrees and above is the true hatching point but have no personal experience to quantify it. Mine stay at 68-69 in the office who's temp is 70- 24/7/365.
Best solution might be to freeze your cigars. It kills any live beetles and "cracks" the eggs. There are rules on how long to leave them in the freezer based upon how cold the freezer is. Then the temp issue is a non factor other than it's affect on the aging process. Have read that Habanos SA has been freezing all export cigars since 03. But it's Cuba so you take it with a grain of salt. Many here freeze all cigars they receive as you just don't know who they have slept with/ at what temperature. |

We don't have AC. No beetle issues so far although I may have just been lucky so far. I have frozen most of my stuff to be on the safe side though. |
