Wierd Bead Reaction?

Interesting situation. I recently got some heartfelt beads, set them up, removed my other humidifation devices from the humi and put the beads in. My humi's held at 67% for 2 days with no problems. I checked my hygrometer on the morning of the third day and it read a whopping 82%!! So I aired out my humi's and immeadiately started a salt test on the hygro. After 10 hours my humi read 74%, almost perfect. So I put the hygro back in the humi and now it is reading 67% again...

Any thoughts on what may have caused the jump?

Here is a chicken just for looking:

The beads aren't all wet, are they? its so they can self regulate if they are full of humidity the beads can't do their job.

No, I only wet 75% of them.

Re: Wierd Bead Reaction?

I had a similar experience, just once. Every time the humidity dropped a point or so, I would spray them. I ended up with humidity issues, and I was thinking WTF, these things are a pain. But then I just let my patience take over and let them sit. Haven't touched my cooler beads in about 4 months, and holding rock steady at 65. I think this may have been a one time thing for you as well.

Are they in a humi or cooler? I work at a liquor store that does cigars as a side business, with a couple cabinets. Every time a box that has a spanish cedar block in it is emptied I take the block home and put it in the cooler. Have about 5 of them in there now, and it seems to be that may have helped with the recovery time of the beads. If you have a desktop or cabinet this wouldn't apply to you, but those with coolers might find that interesting. People say you don't need extra cedar in there with boxes and such, but if you can get your hands on it, it really does seem to help, especially if the cooler is not 100% full.

Re: Wierd Bead Reaction?

I just added some cedar boxes to my cooler about a week ago. Now I am having a little trouble keeping the humidity up. I have to add distilled every 2 days or so. I guess that's just the boxes absorbing the moisture. Once they are moistened up, I am sure it will regulate much easier.

I am with Twill that adding the boxes is a good idea, but you have to pay attention (like we all don't check on our smokes daily) to the humidity levels until everything regulates.

Re: Wierd Bead Reaction?

I am hoping that it was a 1 time thing too, it has been holding steady at 65% now for a day since the salt test.

I wouldn't worry too much, could have been a fluck....keep an eye on it. OH...By any chance did you recently add any cigars, that would bring it up if they where moist.

LOL! I wish! No, no new cigars lately. My budget has been officially terminated for the time being!
