Cooling down the humidor after a long trip?

hey guys - just got back from a long trip, leaving my humidor for the entire month of July and some of Augsut in humid Tennesee. Obviously we weren't running our air conditioner while we were gone.

Don't worry, I emptied it before I left!

But now I'm back and eager to deposit this box of Montecristos inside!

The humidity is at 69% - no problem there - but the temp inside is 87!! Right now I have it in front of the air conditioner, closed. Is there any way to speed up the process? Should I re-moisten the hygrometer?

you should prob calibrate hygro again... then possibly let it air out in the A/C for an hour then close and all should be well

It's a digital hygrometer - should I still calibrate?

It needs some cool air in there. Open the lid for a bit and it should be fine.

Re: Cooling down the humidor after a long trip?

You can get a blue-ice freezer pack, wrap it in a towel (to prevent it from sweating) and put it in the humi. It'll bring the temp way down in a hurry. Of course, it will also drop your RH by quite a bit, since a drastic change in temp is going to make a drastic change in RH. But the temp will be down, and the RH will come back up if you've got beads, so you should be fine.

unless your hygro was approaching battery replacement time (roughly once a year for me) you probably don't need to calibrate it-i don't think it'll change in a month & a 1/2-it won't hurt though, so if you feel like it...-BTW, if you moisten a digital hygrometer, you may have problems!
