Then I got a Blazer...

It's not that my Firebird was "bad". Rather it isn't nearly as reliable/functional/nice/etc as my Blazer.

Gonna get one of those someday.

Don't get me wrong - my best lighter IMO is my Dupont X-tend. And I have an assortment of other lighters that I like as well, including a Blue Rhino that I think might outlive me.

But really the only lighters that have given me problems are the "Deal-Extreme Specials" that were cheap to begin with and have done nothing to rise above their station.

Is it because from day one nothing but triple-refined (at MINIMUM - nowadays I use Vector or Lava) ever went into them?
My old Nibo has never failed me but when I bought an additional 5 off a vendor on Ebay...they sucked. Hey the old Nibo was a cheap-o lighter in the 1st place but the replacement/identical or so I thought one's I bought were trash. Just wonder how many pretty knock-offs are being sent our way.

Hey Joe...when does the Dupont go on the auction block?

Re: Colibri Firebird = Piece of Junk

I agree with Joe's sentiment, and I have often found myself coming to the defense of Colibri. My Enterprise is the most trust-worthy lighter I have ever owned. I liken it to a high-end automobile and realize that if I keep it in good working order, and use the best gas, it will perform like a champ.

I got one for free... it occasionally works. Ronson or the Z-Plus (Zippo insert) are they way to go!

Totally agree. I have some higher-end Calibri lighters as well as a Firebird, none of which have ever let me down. It's worth noting that there are a few Firebird versions. The one without the fuel-level window seems to be the subject of this thread - the one I have does indeed have a fuel-level window and appears to be very well built. I believe I paid about $13 for it.

Re: Colibri Firebird = Piece of Junk

I had one, tossed it about a week after the purchase. Junk. I have another Colibri that works, barely. Kind of a Dupont rip off, uses a flint etc. Can get it to spark about 50 percent of the time.

My Blazer PB207 gave up the ghost after two years of HARD use. Great lighter, but I'm sticking with the Ronson's now, cheap and they work.

Re: Colibri Firebird = Piece of Junk

I have a Firebird that I paid $9.00 for three years ago, and it works every time! Of course, the one I have is a different style/design than the new one, so that could be the reason one is better than the other.

Re: Colibri Firebird = Piece of Junk

I have a firebird and it works great. It I try to light it by pressing the lever too quick, it will sometimes fail to light. If I do it slowly, it works every time.

Yep, my two Colibris work fine. One of them is pretty useless for lighting cigars, but that is my fault, not Colibri's.

Re: Colibri Firebird = Piece of Junk

Using my firebird is the only frustration I have in smoking cigars - no my second: I can't smoke in the house and it's getting cold. damn. -- The thing lights two cigars tops. It's a good looking lighter though. I use a very good butane but shame i can't get a nice lighter.
