A dupont x-tend should take care of half your frustration, as far as smoking indoors good luck with that one, maybe a nice exhaust fan would help.

Re: Colibri Firebird = Piece of Junk

Toss me into the Colibri positive camp. Perhaps it's because I didn't buy the cheapest possible model available (and then expect the world out of an el-cheapo lighter) but I've never had an issue the brand. My VortexII dual-flame fires up every time as does the Robusto that I bought a buddy for his birthday this year.

I have a Firebird that came "free" with a 5er of AVO'S. Its never given me any issues, although I have used better lighters.

Re: Colibri Firebird = Piece of Junk

I bought a Colibri Tempest from Joecigar for $10. I wanted to toss it almost immediately, trouble lighting it and keeping it lit once I actually got it to work.

Bought a Colibri Quantum Crossfire from CBid for $19 (not bad for a $60 retail) and I absolutely love it and have had no issues whatsoever with it.

My guess is they are trying to get in the lower priced lighter market and havent successfully figured out how to make good, cheap lighters (not that my Crossfire is any where near the nicest they make).

Re: Colibri Firebird = Piece of Junk

I got a cheap xikar off cbid a few months ago, and love it. While on the road working I bought a ronson at Wal-Mart for $3 bucks and I love it. Can anyone explain to me why a $60 lighter will enhance my smoke more than a ronson with good fuel in it

Had my firebird for over a year, it might be one of my cheapest, but it's one of my most reliable lighters.

Re: Colibri Firebird = Piece of Junk

I must have really bought the wrong line or Firebird lighters. I bought one that wouldn't light - had the B&M tinker with it and couldn't get it to work so traded it for another of the same type. It lasted 1 week. Took it back and they tinkered with that one and then swapped me for a different line of firebird. It lasted 1 week.

I gave up and bought a ronson.

All of mine were free (from JR). I think they all still work.

If I actually paid for one, it probably wouldda crapped out immediately.

Nex to that is Prometheus and I have too many of these POS laying around. They stop working within the year and Im not going to send them back to the factory to wait and then pay S/H charges on top. I now use a Ronson and this thing fires every time so I went back and bought everyone they had and I got 10 of them for less than I bought one POS Colibri or Prometheus.

Don't get me wrong - my best lighter IMO is my Dupont X-tend. And I have an assortment of other lighters that I like as well, including a Blue Rhino that I think might outlive me.

But really the only lighters that have given me problems are the "Deal-Extreme Specials" that were cheap to begin with and have done nothing to rise above their station.

Is it because from day one nothing but triple-refined (at MINIMUM - nowadays I use Vector or Lava) ever went into them?

[quote=Todd W;1743457]I agree with Joe's sentiment, and I have often found myself coming to the defense of Colibri. My Enterprise is the most trust-worthy lighter I have ever owned. I liken it to a high-end automobile and realize that if I keep it in good working order, and use the best gas, it will perform like a champ.

For all of you that like the Colobris count yourself lucky that your lighter hasn't crapped out on you. I have had at least 8 Colobris of all kinds, 4 Prometheus and 2 Firebirds. I bought 2 cheap Nibos and 2 Vector lighters and they work all the time and so far, I bought 10 Ronsons and still have the original one that works every single time. By the time I get to the last Ronson I will be too old to spark it.

Re: Colibri Firebird = Piece of Junk

we stopped selling colibri all together because of the piss poor service they give when trying to get stuff repaired. High failure rate compaired to our Xikars or Vectors

Xtend is a fine light indeed... Colibri's known for great customer service... considering their products are horrible it's the least they can do.
