Thompson Humidor
Ok. A few days before I discovered this sight, I ordered this humidor - http://www.thompsoncigar.com/default...4&page=product
It is larger than I need now but I'd heard from others that's what you want and it made perfect sense. They got it to me fairly quickly, and in person it looks even nicer than it did on the web page. At least I think it does. Beautiful veneers - ![]() And a nice, high gloss finish - ![]() It seals tightly - at least light from a flashlight doesn't leak out anyplace I could see. It has these spiffy 'pockets' in the lid (as you can see on the web page) for putting two of the three humidifiers it came with, as well as the hygrometer - ![]() Unfortunately - at least I thought so before I started to hang out and read here - the small humidifiers are too large to fit in the 'pockets' - ![]() On the web page, they have an area off to the side for the larger humidifier. While it doesn't say so, I was hoping there'd be a divider included. Well it came w/o the area off to the side, and instead there were two fixed dividers right down the middle to put the humidifier in - ![]() Now you guys already knew it I'm sure, but the humidifiers it came with are shite. I had filled the large one and left it outside on edge for something like 15 minutes. It was bone dry on the outside and leaking/spilling nothing. But still, by the next morning it had leaked out and stained the bottom of the humidor - ![]() Thompson has offered to return/exchange it. I wish it didn't have the pockets in the lid, and that the dividers in the bottom for the larger humidifier were movable. And the humidifiers are all but worthless to me. But at this point it seems stable @ about 68-69% and I have no place to put my massive collection * while I get a replacement together. It's actually a pretty nice humidor, and is functioning very nicely thus far. All that, and I'm happy with the way it looks. I've no intention of returning it. As you can see in the photo I have a Xykar jar in it for now, and that should hold me until I can get some beads (pucks for the lid?) together. * Actually, the collection will be larger tomorrow. I ordered 10 of the Padilla Habana's that CI had on their special the other day. Soon as payday rolls around again, I'm pretty sure I'll fall prey to another deal or two. I'd lay money that in no time I'll wish I had a larger one. |

It looks like a nice Humidor,I had a Thompson humidor for a while and I never had any problems with it.The house blend cigars however were another story.

Re: Thompson Humidor
ahh that stinks. Gravity was fighting against you there. I think you will be fine, no one looks inside the humidor...especially to the bottom where it should be covered with sticks!
dump the cartridge and get some beads! |

Re: Thompson Humidor
That's the plan - though I may gut the cartridge and use it for the beads.

Re: Thompson Humidor
I bought the Thompson "millionaire" humidor off a gorilla here because it looked so nice. I was concerned about it holding rh with the drawers and door, but it has performed flawlessly and stores singles well.

Re: Thompson Humidor
I hate the idea of using Velcro anywhere near moisture. If you want to stick to the overhead thing, peel that cheap Chinese hook and loop off, find some good magnets and little squares of galvanized steel and 3m double stick sponge tape. Thats what Madelaine uses and these don't budge. Rasamos's idea of gutting the devices and filling them with beeds is a good one. It'll keep the humidor looking complete when you open it.

Re: Thompson Humidor
Customer service issues aside, it seems like the consensus around here is that Thompson's humidors are probably the only thing you should buy from them. As long as you don't really care how long it takes them to get it to you. The quality on them is good, and the price/value is good. I have two of their Diamondbacks, and I am totally happy with both of them. I have one with my "cheap daily" cigars in it, and one with my "semi-premiums". They both hold humidity dead-on, even with the stock humidifiers, but they do require more frequent recharging than beads. I'm just about to order some beads for my new coolidor anyway, so I'm going to also get enough to retrofit the foam humidifiers, too. There are several good threads on here about how to do that. My humdors are both pretty stuffed, so I don't really have room to use a tube-type or one of those gel jars. There's already a spot in the lid built-in and just the right size for the stock humidfiers, so I'm going to make use of it.
Oh, one thing... The double-sided tape that holds the magnet to one of the hygros didn't stick, and it kept falling off the lid and landing on my cigars, but it's only about 1/4" so it didn't damage any of them. A drop of superglue fixed it right up. I've seen several people say that smoking humdity is lower than storing humidity, and that they "dry-box" them for a couple of days before smoking, so I'm thinking of buying a 20-25ct box, just for that purpose. We have such brutally low humidity for most of the year, dry-boxing may be unneccessary. A couple hours on the counter would probably accomplish the same thing, but I'm thinking a humidor would allow them to dehumidify at a much slower and more controlled rate. Just leaving them "in the wild", I'm afraid the changes will be too drastic and too fast, and could cause them to crack or unravel. I haven't decided for sure, so I haven't given any thought to which one or where I'll buy it. I've seen a few online deals lately that have cigars I want to try and come with a small humidor as a bonus prize, so I might wait for one of those. So many choices...

Re: Thompson Humidor
That is a good lookin humi...
I'd look to see if I could knock out the divider in the bottom...looks like it was pit in as a fix for the cases not fitting the lovely holes at top. Tho they may have done it right and the bond is solid. Dremel to cut it down? ![]() I'd also keep it as it looks mighty fine... Tom

I still have my barrell! And as much as it pains me to give props to Thompson, it has been a great humidor. Hell, even the analog hygrometer is still dead accurate after 4+ years. The "premium, handmade cigars" that came with the humidor, however.... ![]() |

Re: Thompson Humidor
Looks like a nice humidor as I still have one from Thompson that I got about 8 years ago and it still does the job. I have since gotten 3 more humidors from different sources and my last one came from C-Bid that I won and was pretty surprised at the cost--$36 add $5 for shipping. Everything came with all the parts intact, everything works perfectly and the price was unreal and it holds about 125 cigars. Sometimes the Devil Site delivers more than we expect, at least it did for me.
