I will tell you that Dave's beads will get the job done. If they're all white, they should be sucking water almost so fast you can hear it.
Before thinking about using my beads, how many beads are you using and how big is the humi? You may just not have enough beads, or you may have them arranged in a fashion where they can't work to their best ability.
One other thing...
If you've been using them for quite some time and they're all bead chips now, it may be time for some new ones.

I would have suggested that your humi is leaking, but if the beads never turn color, it's not that.
So there you have it Shilala's beads suck!

Shilala's beads ROCK! My humi is ROCK SOLID, built with Shilala bead power!

Re: which beads SUCK moisture OUT the fastest?

Humi is a tiny 20-30 cigar holder. Shuts like a bank vault.
got about 5 ounces of DRY 65% RH beads in there in panty hose. I made 2 pouches to distribute them better.
Hygro is calibrated.

Outside RH is UNREALLY HIGH. Easily 100% if not a bit shy. Been pouring rain here, and I can watch that hyrgo rise each time I leave it open for 20 seconds.

Shilala, HCM's suck out moisture any faster than Dave's?
I know you'll tell me the truth! The God of Beads and other little round things is watching!~

By the way, I cracked up on your you tube vid where you exploded those beads into a sizzling volcanic eruption.

Re: which beads SUCK moisture OUT the fastest?

You didn't mention the condition of the beads.
Are the hose available to the open air or covered with cigars?

If the situation is really dire, you could put a shot glass of DampRid in the humidor. That stuff will absorb as much moisture as you can give it. Most hardware stores carry this stuff.

Okay, now we're getting somewhere.
At first you said five ounces, now you said three. Big difference there.
What are the interior dimensions of your humi?
Are the beads in the open air or are they covered with cigars?

The reason I ask these questions is to determine if you have enough beads and if they arranged so that they can do their job and to find out what condition the beads are in.
If you don't have enough, they won't get the job done. If they are covered with cigars, they can't do their job. If they are overwetted, they can't possibly work.
You mentioned their color...
When they arrived, did you add water to them? Could you take them out of the hose and get a good look? It might change their appearance.

So far, none of the things you are saying are adding up, nor do they make sense. Beads work the way they work. Nothing can change that.
Unless you can relay the information of the conditions around them accurately, there's no way to advise you how to fix the situation.

Start from the beginning and look at everything closely, because something is definately wrong, be it with the info you're providing or the humi or the condition of the beads.
It's very fixable, we just have to get to the bottom of it.

Re: which beads SUCK moisture OUT the fastest?

Sorry for the ambiguity and conflicting info Scott.
I am out of it today. My head is pounding and that RP vintage did not help one bit.

Ok, I think I get what you are saying.
It's around 5 oz, like I originally said and I will inspect it carefully, color, position and all.
Thanks Doctor.
Demi

Re: which beads SUCK moisture OUT the fastest?

I have to agree with Gryphs62. I have had Shilala beads in my vinotemp for about two and a half months and haven't even had to put the container of water in to boost them since the vino stabilized.

Do not have to wet his beads either. If humidity drops, put sponge of distilled H2O in and the beads absorb it.

Have not tried heartfelt, so I cannot compare the two.

Re: which beads SUCK moisture OUT the fastest?

I've never had to add water since day one, but my winadors are as tight as tight gets. The beads have such an incredibly huge capacity for holding water that it takes a huge amount of laden air to raise their equilibrium.
That's why it takes so many days to raise their RH when you want to.

Silica beads. The kind that you'll find in electronics boxes, shoe boxes etc. It usually says "Not for human consumption" on the bag...

Re: which beads SUCK moisture OUT the fastest?

Shilala, received the beads today. Thank you very much.
One question: Since the beads are so fine, is it normal to see them leak through the bag?

I hope to report in a week that these suck the greatest
