Re: My experience with lighters while on vacation.

Sad really. I had a Z-Plus insert that worked flawlessly for 3+ years. Then just stopped working. I decided to spend a little more and get an Xicar Plunge lighter. Brand new out of the box it only lights if the flame adjustment is at half or less. Anything more and the flame blows itself out. I'm using it for now, but will send it back under their liftime return policy. Looks like I'll buy another Z-plus.

The only place here in Socal that I've found them is at CVS about $6, but worth it, it always works...

They always keep one register open for tobacco items. They are usually at knee level towards the end of the counter in that lane.

Ronson Jetlites are the best damn 3 bucks you'll ever spend. They light every single time..

Cigarette aisle by the check-out. They may be hard to see, but they're usually in a package hanging next to the BICs!

Re: My experience with lighters while on vacation.

I find I have to adjust the flame height a good bit on my Xikar. They need to make a bigger fuel reserve. Supposedly they have fixed this with their new models coming out soon. We shall see. Matches haven't failed me yet.

I have had this Xikar for about 6 months and it has worked great.

if you can't find ronsons at wal-mart, CVS normally has them. definitely the best lighter for that kind of money

Re: My experience with lighters while on vacation.

Whenever I have looked for them at my Walmart, there is a place for them, but they are always out of stock.

I use a Prometheus lighter, which was recommended by my B&M. Sometimes it won't light on the first try (rare), but always lights on the second try. I have been pretty happy with it. It is a Promethues Tycoon.

Re: My experience with lighters while on vacation.

At one time, I had my grandfather's old cigar lighter....the thing was a ronson so old that the chrome plating was worn off of it. It still worked flawlessly.

I lost it some years later, but whoever found it was probably in for a treat...that thing was a real trooper.

Re: My experience with lighters while on vacation.

Just ordered a few Windlites from Ronson online store, appears they marked down to $3.95, figure with $7.50 shipping is cheaper than the cost of gas for an 80 mi. roundtrip ticket to the closest Wally World, if more than $50 shipping is free. The cost for the Jetlites were $5.50.
