Since I got my Blazer Evo, life is good.
I refuse to use my Colibris any more.
Ditto...almost the exact same story...have a Colibri Trifecta and a Firebird and I've had to send the Trifecta back to the factory twice in the last month, and the Firebird worked for a day before it quite...both have been returned to me since, and both are working but who knows for how long...their customer service is great, but their quality has gone far downhill...

We have a joke at the shop: "When you sell a Colibri, give the customer a pack of matches".

I'll join the choir:

I've never had much luck with Colibri lighters either. Had a few of them over the last 5 years and they just don't work right.
I bought a cheap torch that looks like a little blowtorch at a gas station 2 years ago for 2.95, and It is the BEST lighter I've ever had, easy. Still use it, even.

I won't blow a gasket, but wether the company likes it or not I will tell them what I think of their lighters, and no they will not get any more money from me, they either fix it for free or to the garbage their lighters go.

Here is a site that has the Zippo Inserts. If you got an old zippo sitting around with a spent insert. This is the thing to put in it. Still the best lighter I have ever had! The Zippo selection ain't bad either.

I'm done buying high end lighters. Waste of Money IMHO. I find my self using a disposable Bic more and more.

I haven't had a problem with a single butane lighter I own. I've got 1 Z-plus insert that I carry with me, and a Colibri Firebird Schooner that I use at home along with 5 no-name cheapies (I fill these all at once, use one until it's empty, throw it in the drawer, grab another and repeat.)

I have no idea why I have such good luck with these lighters and everyone else at the cigar shop does not. Maybe holding the cigar too close to the lighter has something to do with it? Blowback burning out the mechanism. Or maybe it is just plain luck (I happen to choose the 1 in 100 that are manufactured flawlessly each and every time).

Re: Colibri will never have my business again.

My z-plus died on me after using it for a while. When I push down the ignition I can hear/smell the gas coming out but it doesn't make that click and ignite the gas. Wouldn't pay to send it back as I have to pay shipping which may cost close to what the insert costs in the first place. I might as well buy a new one.

Oh and my $5 cheapo lighter with light up fuel tank still works like a charm after 2 years.

Re: Colibri will never have my business again.

I got a $5 triple flame torch lighter that i got in japan. Works like a charm and i don't worry about emptying the darn thing before refilling. Just top it up every so often and it keeps on giving me reliable service.

Thanks for the warning about the colibri. I want an St. Dupont lighter next (if anyone knows where i can get a deal on those -please clue me in...)!

Blazer PB-207. The original torch lighter and problem free. You can fill it with crappy Ronson butane and it will keep working. I had one for 6 years before a friend talked me out of it. My second one I got last year and it hasn't required any maintenance other than refills (IE no purges, cleaning, etc).

The blazer Z-Plus insert that Blazer makes has been very good thus far as well, but I have heard of the ignition switch wearing out on some of them.

If you don't need a pocket size lighter a Roburn model MT-770 simply cannot be beat. You can usually get them for $30 or under and will perform flawlessly with ANY butane and NO maintenance.

Colibri, Nibo, Prometheus, Vector I have had mixed luck with all of them. The best advice on Colibri is to buy their inexpensive ones, the costly ones are less reliable in my experience.
