I've got an easier solution. Go to Wal-Mart and get a few Ronson butane lighters for $3 apiece. I have 2 that have been up and running on cheap fluid for about a year.

I have a Colibri Deuce that works like a champ. Then again, I've had it for around a year and have only used it 15 or so times. I always use a cedar strip to light my cigars, so it doesn't really matter to me what I use to light the strip in the first place, whether it be free matches or a $60 lighter.

Re: Colibri will never have my business again.

I'm going to give the Walmart Ronson a try. Our local Walmart (37 miles away) didn't stock them. I might try a Zippo insert, too. I like to have lighters scattered around where they're always handy.

I bought a Colibri 15 years ago. It still works, just not very well. Very anemic flame. I've gone through 2 Blazer PB-207's and I'm now on #3 and #4 of the "Cigar ll" JRs freebies. I think I read where these are made by Colibri. #1 quit working and I guess I lost #2. I clean the burner heads with a Q-tip dipped in acetone and blow it out with my air compressor. The flame adjuster needs adjusting as the tank burns down on the Cigar ll's. Kind of annoying. Matches and bics just don't seem to work well for me. Too much wind here, I guess.

Proud owner of a Z-Plus insert that has yet to fail yet.
And if it does - I'll buy another one for $9.

Also, looks great in my pearl blue Zippo.

I've come to the conclusion that all torch lighters are problematical, but Colibri torch lighters are no good. I've owned three expensive ones; two I was given and one that I bought. First two went back to the factory multiple times. Last one is at the bottom of the Cocheco River.

Hope I'm not picked up for illegal dumping.

I guess I am one of the few but I have this one and it is great! The first one I bought has lasted about 2 years (still going), so I ended up picking a couple more off ebay.

wow, i'm surprised colibri lighters haven't worked well for so many people, i've had two quantum slides that have both worked great (i made the mistake of letting some girl at a party who was with one of my friends borrow my first one, long story short she let someone else at the party borrow it and i never saw it again)

Re: Colibri will never have my business again.

Well I spontaneously bought a colibri firebird at my local B&M today because I didn't have a torch lighter and it was only 10 bucks. When I got home I searched on the forums to learn more about them and this is what I find . Haven't used it yet, we'll see how things go...

Does anybody have a broken colibri that they do not intend to fix? I would love to take one apart and see if I can figure out potential failures...I'm a die hard tinkerer....I love taking broken things apart....

If you dive and want a New England vacation, I can show you the bridge where I threw my last one into the river. After that we'll go down the street to the cigar shop and herf.

I also have a Colibri Firebird and the damn thing needs refilling about every two or three cigars! And it doesn't spark up every time either. Oh well...off to find a cheapie!
