I use a Bic. Why? because I can never find any of my Ronson's and i own 5 of them. It sucks when trying to light up when it's windy out though.

Re: Colibri will never have my business again.

Guess I just got lucky with my current Colibri.

I don't remember the model, but I got it off of eBay about 6 months ago.

Good size tank, reliable lighting, adjustable single torch and it has a very bright LED flashlight.

Battery required, but has lasted 6 months of heavy use.

Re: Colibri will never have my business again.

As a newby, I've been putting my money into cigar tasting. ( todays is a Casa Torano) I bought two China made Colibri's, neither of which work real well. My mother inlaw gave me an old Lighter (Dundee) from when FIL worked for Rio Grande Oil in Albq. It has a Gulf Oil emblem on it. Fueled it up and it lites every time! So I went to the store and bought a Zippo with a lifetime warranty. Not as cool looking as the tight blue flame, but a quick blow thru after toast eliminates the lighter smell.

I'm just getting started so I haven't got around to looking at lighters yet. Still working on learning what I like and getting a stock of sticks together. Though for the price and reliablity I can recommend this lighter.

It's hard to lose, has a great flame, and starts every time. Plus when sitting outside, it's fun to play with.

Re: Colibri will never have my business again.

I got this colibri last summer, and so far, I've had no problems, other than wear and tear

Well, that and the fact that its a single blade cutter, which I have to be way too careful for. I just hate carrying too much stuff, and appreciate the lighter cutter combo.

I'll let folks know if things change...hopefully not

Re: Colibri will never have my business again.

I got a Colibri 3 flame lighter for xmas in 05. It's been a good lighter, but I find myself grabbing for my Blazer PB-01 or this 5 dollar jobber I got from cheaphumidors or one of those vendors (triple flame). The Colibri, despite having good fuel in it sometimes wouldn't light for any reason. Really disappointing since I know my mom spent 80 or so dollars on it.

Re: Colibri will never have my business again.

I got three Free Colibri lighters and all three of them went out in a few days time. I threw them all in the trash in disgust. Two would'nt stop flaming upon charging the first time, and one wouldn't stay lit, period.
I will never buy anything Colibri ever.

Re: Colibri will never have my business again.

I have 2 Colibris, one that was a gift from the girlfriend, and another that I quietly bought last year because I was frustrated with the performance of the first. Now the newer one is crap. Won't light 75% of the time won't stay lit, adjustments are way off, have to have it full open to get it to work, which just wastes butane.

So finally sprung for a ST Dupont xTend a couple weeks ago. Now this is a performance lighter. This concludes my relationship with Colibri lighters.

Re: Colibri will never have my business again.

I've never had a problem with my two ronsons...well one now since I gave one to shaggy, and my z-insert is working wonderfulyl right now. I'd love to find a pd207 and a colibri to mess around with. Well the colibri is to mess around with but I refuse to pay a lot for it since I've never heard good things. The pb207 is just cool

Re: Colibri will never have my business again.

I've had two colibri's. Both worked for a short while but none worked after that. I've since received a freebie that has not failed . . . doesn't have a name on it. Also I recently purchased a Xikar that has not failed either. The Xikar is a heavier lighter than what I'm use to so it stays at home. I carry the freebie in my pocket.

Lesson learned: No Colibris for me.

Re: Colibri will never have my business again.

Either I have spectacular luck - like, we're talking Ripley's here - or you guys have horrible luck.

I have 4 Colibri lighters, and I love every one of them.

The Quantum triple-flame is phenomenal, had it for 7 years and it's never failed; very handy for big cigars or small bonfires. Even the cheapest one I've got I can depend on to light every time.

On the other hand, I've never used anything but premium fuels in any of my lighters - prometheus, colibri, like that.

I am using a Blazer now, and so far am very happy. Have some Vector Fuel on the way, and hoping that will keep things running smoothly. Was going to give the Colibri another shot with the Vector, but I'll be damned if I can find the darned thing....
I have a $10 Colibri Firebird that is 3 yrs. old and has always worked great with Vector, and I leave it in my garage year round, but on the other hand, a friend of mine has a Colibri (Duke of Earl or something)with the gullitine cutter that he paid like $80 for and it hasn't worked right since he bought it, go figure........

By reading the experiances related here, I can conclude that about 20% of all Colibri torch lighters work just fine.
