Once I take the "governer" off, all of my Colibri's work just fine.

True to my word I went to wally world today and bought one, $2.94!
They are China cheap, but it seems good for the price.
Hopefully this one will last a while (unlike my crappy Colibri that broke after a year with minimal use!)

I have one but I'm going to stock up on them, and have them all full and ready to go. I'm going to buy a lot of them on ebay, seem to go for around 2.50-3.00 a lighter in lots of 12

Re: Ronson JetLite Torch Lighter

I've used these lighters for the last couple of years but find that after a while the flame intensity gets progressively worse even when full, and eventually they don't light without repeated sparks. At the high setting there's one quick burst of flame and then it dies. I've read here about "bleeding" which doesn't help. Could someone elaborate on the best way to bleed the bleedin' thing or suggest another solution. I'm too cheap to keep buying new ones.

Depress the fill nozzle until it stops making the hissing sound. YOu may need to press and release it several times until it makes no more noise.

I took the lighter apart and removed the governor disc on the flame intensity screw.. now the flame will go as high and as low as I like.

Its real easy to do that too.
1) Unscrew the lighter casing at the bottom (Philips screw)

2) take the black o-ring off of the flame adjuster dial

3)take a small flatblade screw driver and pry the governor off of the adjuster dial

4) put everything back together

That's how it's done!

Do the same to a Colbri Firebird and they work wonderfully too!

Success!! Thanks for the tips. I was bleeding it as you suggest but that didn't help. I never thought to "ungovern" it but tried it and the blasted thing works like new again! I really appreciate your help!

Re: Ronson JetLite Torch Lighter

I just grabbed one of these yesterday from Canadian Tire. They have them for 12.99, but I used a crap load of my CT money to get it, and ended up paying $4.79.

Looks solid!! The flame is great and the perfect size, but I still removed the governor disc so I can adjust it to any size I want.

Great buy for sure. Thanks to those who recommend it!!!

Re: Ronson JetLite Torch Lighter

I've had my Ronson for about a month now and haven't had any problems with it. The only thing is, right after I fill it, I usually have to spark it a few times to get it to light up, but after the lighter warms back up to room temperature, everything works great!

That is common after refilling butane torches, they experience "Freeze up".
