Wow Madurolover, that really looks cool. People would pay for a lighter like that - it looks like it has been through WW2. Keep using it everyday!!!

That looks sweet! I wonder if I could get this effect using fine sandpaper...hmmm...

It would be even sweeter if I could do an etching with it like this:

Btw,here is the link for anyone interested in this process. Pretty neat imho.

NP.

I looked at my ronson, and it looks like there is a screw on the bottom and that the assembly may be able be removed from the casing. If that is the case, I may try a saltwater etch and coat it in copper. If/when I have time, I'll post the results.

The lighters are cheap enough, its worth a try.

I'm glad you wrote this... and that there were many great reviews on these lighters! I ordered 4 of these jet-lites this morning and I know I won't go wrong.

Hell, I paid $22 for 4 lighters and that included shipping... I won't complain at all. Not a great deal of money but you get a quality product!

I can't wait to try these out!

thought it was upside down when filling and rightside up when purging........ may be wrong but thats what i do.

Re: Ronson JetLite Torch Lighter

Anybody successfully ordered any of these from the website? I put an order in but no money taken from my account and no confirmation email.

I emailed their "orders" dept and just got a hotmail admin email back saying my email had been delayed.....weird.

Where did you order them from? The Ronson store was going to charge almost $8 shipping PER lighter, and I wanted 3 or 4 of them. Any help would be appreciated

Re: Ronson JetLite Torch Lighter

Went to the local wal-mart. They had ~20+ of these in stock

I bought four for an etching project. I am going to try to etch cigar brand bands into them using the etching process I posted above. If it works, I will post a separate thread on it with pics.

I sanded one of these babys down yesterday. They have a copper coating underneath the "gunmetalish" finish and then I think they are steel under that (thats what it looked like anyway).

I am going to etch them and then coat them in copper using copper sulfate.

Re: Ronson JetLite Torch Lighter

I've been working on my Jetlite as well...I've polished it down to the copper in one area, and will soon do it to the entire thing.

Be careful when polishing it down to copper as it is a steel color underneath. If you polish it too far, you will hit the steel.

I found particularily the edges sand really fast. I would use something like 1000 or 2000 grit automotive wet/dry one you start seeing any copper.

Good luck!

I am going to try etching sometime this week (working on the toner template transfer tonight) and I will start a mod your Ronson Jetlite thread when I get it to work, so this thread doesn't get too long.

Re: Ronson JetLite Torch Lighter

Ronson finally took the money from my account - which I assume means that they will be shipping my order soon.

These lighters better last forever as that's how long it takes for you to get them shipped!

Only took mine 3 days. The first one that is, the other four I got at Wal-mart.
