I have a similar Walmart story.

In my section of Los Angeles, there aren't many around. On a business trip in 1997 I was in Colorado and for the first and last time went to a Walmart.

I went to buy a traveler's clock because I was travelling abroad the next week for a 3-week business trip. I asked 3 Walmart employees where the traveler's alarm clocks were, clarifying by saying "you know, the kind that run on batteries and have an alarm??". They looked at me all puzzled.

Then one referred me to the manager of the electronics department, a kid hadn't yet begun to grow facial hair and who looked at me like a deer in headlights, seemingly incapable of fathoming why anyone would ever NEED a traveler's alarm clock. His scared look told me he thought I was insane to ever consider leaving a town with a PERFECTLY GOOD WALMART just like the folk who believed the world was flat must have looked at Columbus.

Walmart might make me very happier if they had a branch close enough to me where I wouldn't need to refill my car's gas tank to get there.

On the other hand, I just used WalMart.com and got the following response to a search for "hygrometer":

Well I guess that settles it for me, I was giong to pick one up but now I think I will hold off until I go to Radio Shack next time. Thanks for the updates and info guys.

after several days spent fighting that god damn cheap ass hygrometer Im off to wally world to return it and get their 12 dollar digital. Im hoping its better than the cheepo

Good news regarding the 12 dollar digital at wal mart. I did the salt test on it and after 15 hours it read 72% which is the same reading as my 20 dollar rad shack. Stuck it in the cooler and the Rad Shack read 68% and the Wal Mart read 69%.

I thought I would give a little update to the review. I was a little worried becase one of them had been all over the place when I added this weeks C-Bid shipment to my coolerdor. It did stabilize back at 65% when I took it out last night. So I think the cooler just needed to stabilize.

Last night I did the salt test on the two Walmart Hygrometers. Today when I checked them upon getting home from work, they read 74 & 75%. Maybe I just lucked out and got a couple of good ones. But that seems pretty good to me. I will probably test them again in a couple of months, but no complaints at all here!!!

I like the size of the unit and will have no problem keeping one in my small 20 count desk humidor at work.

Now I am curious about this one:

It is $18 for a wireless unit made by Oregon Scientific. Unfortunately, the two targets I looked for them at, were sold out. I will check another one this weekend.

That Target link points to a wireless thermometer only not a thermo/hygro. The only one target sells that is also a hygrometer is this one for $39.99: http://www.target.com/gp/detail.html...sin=B000B6KPEY

The features say this:

Remote temperature and humidity sensor has a transmission range of 100'

You would think it has a humidity reading as well. But looking at the display, it does not seem to have a humidity reading, unless there is a button that lets you toggle to it.

THey were near the lightbulbs and clocks in the store I went to.

I purchased the rad shack thermo - hygro sensor today for 14.99. I've had it sitting near the thermostat at work for the last couple of hours just to compare temps. They were off by only 2/10ths of a degree. Hopefully the RH will be as seemingly accurate once I get her in the humi.

The 12 dollar Wally World hygro I bought a few weeks ago is still running perfect. Only 3% off which for 12 bucks I dont think can be beat. Highly suggest trying it instead of shelling out more for a rad shack or oregon scientific.

Thanks for the heads up.

Was in the store so thought "Why not?". Put it in the humi and looked after a couple of days and 65% was on the reading. I'll check it every couple of days to see how it goes.
