Re: $6.78 Walmart Digital Hygrometer

Those that liked the old Radio Shack temp/RH unit, a similar unit is made under the Bemis name. Google "Bemis Hygrometer", and I think they're $19-$22 a pop. Looks just like the older RS unit I have several of.

Re: $6.78 Walmart Digital Hygrometer

I also have this walmart digital hygrometer and think it works great. Did the salt test, adn mine was off by less than 3%, not to bad for a 7.00 instrument. Also, lots better than the analog units, as I have yet to find one that is even somewhat consistent

Re: $6.78 Walmart Digital Hygrometer

One of the hyrometers I got is running a little low now. I will try to change the batteries in it and see if that helps out. And will run another salt test on it.

Got one as well as do many other members. You'll find that the reaction time on the Oregon Scientific temp/hygro unit is extremely slow. There's a thread here on a quick modification to the enclosure that will allow more airflow to the unit's sensor.

Re: $6.78 Walmart Digital Hygrometer

I just picked up one of these Wally-World hygrometers today. I'm interested to see how acurate it is. I'll post back with what I discover from a salt test.

After sitting for over 18 hours in an empty tupperdor it's sitting at 66 degrees and 75%. I'd say it's good.

Is the walmart hygrometer a wireless unit?? I looked in Walmart the other day and couldn't find anything other than wireless weather stations. Definitely nothing for 7 bucks

Re: $6.78 Walmart Digital Hygrometer

The one refered to in this thread isn't. It's a clip on/magnet which you can make stand up. There was quite a selection when I went. This was the cheapest one, but there were some that had an external sensor (between $8 and $11) and some remote units (between $11 and $30).

Re: $6.78 Walmart Digital Hygrometer

I replaced both of my Walmart digitals this past weekend. They wouldn't register any change in humidity at all so I ended up just getting some other ones for $20 a piece that are spot on and have a tolerance of only +/- 1.3 degrees instead of the +/- 5 degrees on the Walmart one.

Re: $6.78 Walmart Digital Hygrometer

Well my 7.00 dollar wally world hygrometer took a shit, but the 12.00 one still works good. I bought the 12.00 hygrometer a few months ago and the 7.00 one less than a month ago.
Im not going to mess around with this cheap wally world junk anymore ,Im just going to get a caliber III or one of the diamond crowns . I have a feeling neither of them were ever really on the money even though I salt tested them

Re: $6.78 Walmart Digital Hygrometer

OK now I have tried a total of 6 of the Wally World hygrometers. All 6 have been off by around 10 pt on RH. I have been buying them 2 at a time and trying them out. Each time I took them back and exchanged them. My wife just picked 2 more up that were tested, WITH THE SAME RESULTS.. This will be my last try with them. I would say DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY. Just my RJT

Re: $6.78 Walmart Digital Hygrometer

I just got one myself today. I notice it takes a while to stabilize when doing the salt thingy. It is very sensitive though; just changing the location from one spot to another causes a 1 degree rise in the temperature reading. I will leave it with the salt until tomorrow, and see what happens. The salt procedure I read about recommends 6 hours. By the other accounts posted here, there seems to be a lot of fluctuation with these digital things. I was debating if I should spring for the more expensive one at about 12 bucks and decided to go with the cheaper one.
