Picked up one of these last week, salt tested dead on right out of the package. Tested it again lastnight and still right on, so far so good.

Re: $6.78 Walmart Digital Hygrometer

I have two identical coolerdors with 65% Heartfelt beads. I've been sharing one ~$20 hygrometer between them. It is supposed to be +- 1% and has stayed right around 65%.

I have found the beads to be trustworthy, so haven't felt like I need another hygrometer. At the Wal-Mart price, though, I decided to give this one a try.

I put it in the same coolerdor as my other hygrometer at first. It seemed to take about a day for it to stabilize, but then it exactly matched the other hygrometer. Both are reading 65 degrees, 65% humidity in my basement, in cool but dry Colorado.

I feel like I can trust the Wal-Mart unit, if given a little time to settle in. It helps that I also trust the beads.

The Walmart in my area keeps them near the ceiling fans and light switch covers.

If your finding the wireless models, and not the other, that Walmart may not carry them. I don't think they would put hygrometers in two different places.

At the first Wal-Mart I went to, I only found the expensive wireless kinds. The second one had both and they were right next to each other.

Re: $6.78 Walmart Digital Hygrometer

I just picked up an 11.99 one today - it's salt testing as I post. They didn't have any of the cheapie ones - this one has a probe, wired, as well as the main unit.

Re: $6.78 Walmart Digital Hygrometer

After 24 hours in the salt chamber it seems the humidity will not increase further than 56% without air circulation around the sensor in the device. so it will be used as a temp gauge exclusively. and ill stick with some of the better (diamond crown, user calibrated versions from mark) hygros for my humi.

Hmm my analog hydrometer says 45% but the Wal-Mart hydrometer says 86%, don't know which one to trust.

Radio Shack calls them Weather Stations. I ran into the same thing. Guy had a major 'DUH' moment.

For anyone buying these Walamrt units I've noticed they are tough on batteries and that that is when they may read sporadically. My Radio Shack units are running over 6 months on a single set of batteries. The Walmart unit after a few months will drop of RH wise and the LED's will look faint. Replace the batteries and they come back up into normal zones. I think they work oaky for sattelite type hygro's. Dunno if I would use them as primaries. I just like the wireless Radio Shack so much.
