Talking DRI-DAMP Cigar Tester!

I just purchased a Dri-Damp Cigar Tester the other day...and I think every cigar lover should have one. When I tested the cigars in my personal humidor (some having been aging for over a year) they all read normal moisture. but when I tested the cigars at my favorite cigar store, even though the hygrometers all were reading 70/70, they ALL tested dry! at $9.95 it was a great purchase.

Welcome to CS. The Dri-Damp was reviewed by Top25, their opinion varied just a little.

If you like it, then that is what matters.

That's not a ringing endorsement...maybe their technology has improved since '03. Not really my thing...I'll stick to the digi hygrometer and feel.

They should have adjusted the calibration...like it says in the directions... then it works fine...mine said everything was dry as well until I recalibrated it.

I have one. It doesn't work well at all, except as a drawpoker in an emergency.

LMAO, way to improvise smitty!

On a related note, I was actually curious about these dri-damp things, but now I think I'll stay away from them. Thanks for the info though!

We did adjust the calibation. Unfortunately it still sucked. After reading this post I broke it out
again. Later this evening I'll try it again and see what happens.

Angry Re: DRI-DAMP Cigar Tester!

Ok, I am starting to believe that mine may have been the exception to the rule... A friend of mine just got one...and his says EVERYTHING is dry!
even things that mine says are normal. I dont know why some would work and others not, but I would stear clear of this product.

I got one from CI free with a purchase. It did not seem to work well.

Re: DRI-DAMP Cigar Tester!

I just received mine, a recent acquisition from the devil site. I paid only $5.00 plus shipping. I got the same results everyone else did...DRY! I haven't played with the calibration yet. After reading this thread, it doesn't seem like I should waste my time doing so.

I got mine about a year ago and it stinks.
No matter what cigar I test, the result is Dry.

Re: DRI-DAMP Cigar Tester!

I got my first Dri-Damp about a month ago when it was offered at a "discount." Like other users, every cigar tested "dry", although those that registered towards the 'green' zone were probably actually close to the 70% storage environment's humidity. After reading the discussion thread and re-reading the instructions, I calibrated and came up with 'green' zone readings for the cigars that I deemed most ready to enjoy. I ordered two more on ebay the next day to give as gifts.

The technology behind this is simple, cheap, and not new -- a similar product has been marketed through gardening outlets for years, a soil moisture tester with a long probe and 3-zone scale with wobbling needle.

By the way, today, there are online sellers listing this at a big discount for over $20. My original - through Cigar Auctions - and the two that I just bought on ebay were around $7-8 delivered. Considering what's inside the plastic housing, there's no reason for these to cost any more than that. And, at that price, it's not a big gamble to see if it works for you.
