MrR
No this has never happened to me. I believe the crystals will last years and years.

Interesting. I have had mine for over 12 months without a problem.
Have you added water?

I dont undertand how that happened. Did you add water when they were going down in size?

Re: Xikar Humidification Crystals

Hi all,

I just purchased a 100-150ct park lane humidor and the seller also offers a kit with a digital hygro which I wanted to purchase, the kit includes:

100ct xikar humidifier
1 xikar crystal jar
1 xikar PG bottle
and the hygrometer

Is it overkill to use both the humidifier and the jar?

In my experience with Xikar crystals (and I have used them in several humidors and different types) it is not overkill. Get both and put them both in the humidor. If the humidity gets to high you can just take out the jar for 24 hours. easy fix!

Sorry James. I fell asleep on this post.

No, I did not add water. The jars only last 4 months or so then they dry up. I have since discovered Heartfelt beads and will never never go back to the Xikar jars or any other method.

My recommendation is don't waste your time with the crystal jars or the humidifier. Get yourself some Heartfelt beads. You will be very happy you did.

I need to get this setup asap since I have someone going on vacation that will bring me back some cigars in two weeks from now. I think this will give me just enough time to have a buffer to get my humidor stable by then.

I will go pick up my humidor with the crystal stuff from Xikar since it's available over there and is still a lot cheaper than the beads.

Thanks for the input, I will definitely keep this in mind if I have to replace any of this stuff in the future.

Thanks, vendor said the same thing finally, and I wanted to validate from a user perspective.

My recommendation is don't waste yor time or money and get some 100% unscented silica crystals. I get 8 lbs for $14 and use it in my mini-fridge humidor and Don Salvadore 100 ct humidor. I opened my fridgador for the first time in 2 weeks with it sitting on 70% and 72 degrees F.

There's your problem. When the crystals give off their moisture, they shrink. You add more water and they expand. I've got one jar and three pucks that I've had about 3 years. They last much longer than 4 months if you add water when needed.

There's usually a line about a thrid to halfway down the jar. When the level gets to that line, add your solution or distilled water.
