Decent Inexpensive Torch

I'm relatively new to cigars in general, and CS in particular (intro'd a couple weeks ago). One of my pet peeves is the inability to find a decent, inexpensive torch. So far I've bought 2 Nibo triple torches, and tossed both after less than a week. I received a Colibri Firebird as a freebie in an order. Not bad, but now with the flame adjustment at it's lowest, it is practically a welding torch. So the search continues.

I found a Blue Rhino Tusk model at my local B&M. It can be seen at this link:

I think I paid $22, $25 something like that. This thing is perfectly adjustable, doesn't seem to use much fuel, and best of all ... it works! Fires up on the first try probably 95% of the time. Seems to be pretty durable, and is just nice-enough looking that it gets compliments.

I haven't seen mention of Blue Rhino in most discussion, so I thought I'd toss out another option for those having bad luck with other torch lighters.

I think if you're lookin for a cheap torch, the Ronson Jetlite is the way to go. $2.99 at Walmart. Blue Rhino's are good lighters though and they have a decent warranty. Or the Xikar Executive is only 19.95 at most sites and they have a lifetime warranty. Most flame adjustments can be controlled by taking the body off the lighter and adjusting the govenor. Even if you can't find the Jet Lite at Wal-Mart, they have them available from their website for around $5 - still a deal to me.

Yep and don't forget about the local CVS. They have them for about 4.50.

Re: Decent Inexpensive Torch

Ronson Jet-Lite all the way, if you can find one.

I use a Solo dual-flame that works pretty well, cost me $25 and it has a lifetime warranty. It breaks, I take it to the B&M for a brand new one. Good deal.

The new Colibri Reload is a good lighter too. Lights on the first click every time and is fairly inexpensive, and you can take it on the plane by popping out the fuel cartridge. Has something to do with the cartridges being filled at sea level, so it lights every time here at Mile High. It doesn't cost a whole lot, either.

But if you can find a Ronson, go for it. Those things last forever.

Re: Decent Inexpensive Torch

I'm a firm believe in the Ronson after everything I read about them. Couldn't find one where I live and trust me, there are more Walmarts and CVS stores around than you can throw a brick. A brother finally sent me two of them and I swear by these lighters. I use to buy the expensive one, Calibri, Prometheus brands and would have to toss them after about a year. I am using my Ronson everday and haven't had to refill it yet. Bar none, even if you have to send away for it, it's well worth the price and shipping.

Re: Decent Inexpensive Torch

Greg (Longknocker) bombed me and the Ronson was included. It has been perfect in every way so far.

Very kewl. You guys are a great help to the new guy. I'm gonna go to work on the welding-torch-Colibri tonight to see if I can salvage it. Thanks again.

Another for The Jetlite. My neighbor was a lighter killer until I bought her one of these.

Re: Decent Inexpensive Torch

Just ordered two off their website,$5.50 per. I am sick of all those expensive lighters breaking after a months use. I'll give these a shot.

Another nice cheapie is the z-plus insert for a zippo. It is a little more expensive than the Ronson (its 12.00 i think), but I have a couple and they work really well.

Re: Decent Inexpensive Torch

Just got my two from UPS. That was quick shipping on their part. These lighters are nice! Thanks for the heads up.
