Nope - I just ran a bead around the gauge on the outside. As soon as I did that, it stabilized. Of course it only took me three or four days to figure this out!

I'm lucky to remember what I had for lunch yesterday!

Silicone is basically an inert compound, and the odor doesn't last long once it's dry. Whatever Home Depot or Lowes carries should be fine.

If you're worried about it imparting a smell or contaminating your cigars, don't be. Using silicone is no worse than using the wood glue, glass sealant and urethane coatings your humidor was recently put together with.

There is one thing you may want to watch our for. Mine wouldn't initially hold humidity. I finally realized that the seal around the analog hygrometer set in the front was the problem. It just didn't seal properly. I ran a bead of silicone around it and the problem was solved.
I have the exact same humi as well. This is what it looks like full

It took a while for mine to reach an appropriate RH level. What helped for me was using the flashlight test around the analog hygro (with the lights off shine a flashlight at the seal from inside the humi and if you can see the light around the seals from outside the humi then there is a leak). It took me a couple of tries but I was able to get the analog hygro to sit properly and then seal up well without using any caulking. I also used a bowl of DW and I wiped the interior of the humi daily with DW. It's a big box so it will take some time to hydrate.

I would also SERIOUSLY consider buying some humidification beads instead of the foam. I run a Hydra in mine which makes it maintenance free for months at a time.

My lone complaint about this humi is that I wish the cigars in the bottom were easier to arrange. I have mostly singles or small amounts of the same cigar. So, the bottom section ends up being a hodge podge of different cigars and it makes it hard to find what I'm looking for.

I've had my Salerno for 4 months now and still am impressed with it's looks and function. Holds RH very well, only problem I have is that I'm running very low on room...

Re: Review ---- Tampa Humidor Salerno 300ct

Ok, here's an update.

I'm freezing ALL of my cigars right now, that'll be a 3 day process, so its got time to stew.

Anyways,on thursday night i begun the process. i did 2 shot glasses of DW. shocked the interior, I filled the foam humidifiers with Pg and water. and i (yesterday) did the hot water trick.

I looked at it today and its reading a steady 66 with all that shit still in there. So i added 2 water pillows and a humipack.

We'll see where we are tomorrow

I have the salerno as well. My analog was causing a RH leak as well. I had to remedy mine as well. I used plastic wrap on the inside to tighten the seal that the gauge had. It was a pain to get right, but I haven't had a problem since.

Good luck with your new humi.

Re: Review ---- Tampa Humidor Salerno 300ct

yeah, my analog took forever to get in, its so tight, but that still doesnt guarantee no leaks,....

to remedy that, im going to take some vinyl that you use to make stickers and have a circle cut out and put it over the hole from the inside... yes this will make the analog hygro useless... but who uses those anymore since they are sometimes innacurate right?

my other idea was to use a can/bottle/something top that is just a tad bit too small and use electrical tape to buffer it, then shove it in from the backside (thats what she said) to make a tight seal and stil lallow for the analog hygro to be ornamental.

I got to see this in person friday. This is one great looking humidor and whenever i out grow mine this will most likely be the one i go with. Why no silicon? Sounds like an easy way to fix it and then you can still have the analog to read 20% off.

PS. nice to meet you man and hope to do some business with you again and smoke some cigars next time too.

Re: Review ---- Tampa Humidor Salerno 300ct

heck ya man. great to meet you as well.

i deff. wanna get a couple guys together and herf somewhere like the Tbox tuesd or weds.

i dont want to use silicon, i wont be able to do it cleanly.

anyways, i took the plastic top from a hairspray bottle, but it down to size and cleanly wrapped plastic wrap around it and STUFFED it in ther. Badda boom, easy, clean, and looks just fine. best of all, i know it works because the analog hygro died in like 40 mins!!!

I have used silicon at work before, it was nice and easy. Put it on, pull the extra off with a rag, let dry, win. Either way as long as you got it to stop leaking then its all good. Here is a link to the hygrometer I have and was telling you about.
